From what I have read, this all started when the teacher overheard the boy bullying/teasing a mentally handicapped child.

The teacher's response, though, was like putting out fire with gasoline.

Slashed tires? This woman has some serious anger management issues.

    Some Background Information

Sounds like she teaches in a Zoo. Also sounds like there's some attempts at deflection/blame going on.

I just showed this to my mom. She's a teacher. I come from a family of teachers. She was shocked. We both felt that the teacher did deserve to be fired. If he was indeed threatening a little girl, then at the very most you'd restrain him. But by the looks of the video, he wasn't near the other child. He was cornered AND he gave up by collapsing to the floor. It should have stopped there.

Over the years of volunteer work I've done for my parents classes, I've encountered kids that had such behavior but it wouldn't have occured to me to do anything as stupid as that lady did. All my father ever had to do with his class was raise his voice to a certain level and it stopped all the class dead in their tracks. It worked at home to. You just knew he meant business. He wasn't abusive or anything, he just knew how to use his presence.

        I agree,
Even many attacking animals know this as a submissive posture and will stop attacking.

Yes, the horrifying thing about this to me is that you can see the Kid is terrified yet this teacher is so mad she cant control herself.....even worst is the fact that there are others in the room and do nothing.
Also, as Bryan said....we as Humans have started down that horrible destructive path that has already been set.

            I agree.

But according to the teacher, she was OTT emotionally at that point because she had been locked out of her class by students intent on bullying the special needs student. Her lawyer claims that this triggered the incident. That's just her trying to deflect blame.

Teachers have keys to their classrooms. Where were hers? Looks like things are pretty lax at that charter school...

Place her on the child abuse registry and loose her credentials.
I truly hate to say it but that screams multi-million dollar lawsuit!!!

Some people go through life without ever being in a fight. For this kid to be pummeled by someone in a position of authority like that is going to scar and jade him for life.

On the side of speculation I would say she was in an abusive relationship before. It was her trigger point.Just a thought.
“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”

Yeah, maybe if she caught him in the ACT of doing it, and was
restraining him until the principal arrived....ehhhhh....no.
