He's "updating it" to reflect the times, which I expect will be reflected in the multimedia, not the content, he's doing some projections of photos of people and soldiers killed in recent wars, that kind of thing. It makes me a bit nervous because his work has gotten less poetic the more he tries to make an explicit political statement, sometimes it sounds like he's reading his lyrics from the newspaper. I haven't loved anything he's done since Pros and Cons, personally, and the In The Flesh tour left me underwhelmed. But I don't think he can do anything but deliver a completely stunning spectacle with the Wall so I'm there.

I kind of liked the In the Flesh tour ... See him in '99
Stage props were a couch and lamp

I was shocked to see him play lead guitar on Dogs and he did a hell of a good job of it.

Now, the 'updating' thing may be a bit touchy.
I recall hearing some anti-war bits that Roger Waters posted a few years back and they were not all that great. If he retranslates the 'build a wall' theme to a political rather than teen angst agenda, it may not fly too well for the traditional fan.

btw scott: I too was in the prime demographic for the Wall and was host and participant to many a precollege teen party screening of the film (well, vhs anyway).
I've also spent over a third of my life touring around with a band so I sort of know the odd relationships you form with fans/bandmates. I had a pretty good time with that album in my younger years and will expect nothing short of spectacular with the tech of the show.

and I am sure it will be out on DVD for those who can't afford tix.

Check out the official site, Roger Waters :: The Wall Live :: Official Site it's using the familiar iconography and the original is heavily anti-war, so it's not a stretch. The guy has his passions and uses his position to speak his mind, I totally respect that.

He's going to make a ton of money, too.

I was heavy into high school theater and my friend and I did a two-person 12 minute version of the Wall that was took to drama tournaments. He did Pink and i did all the other characters. They either loved it or hated it, but we ended up taking 2nd place at State. We studied it pretty hard trying to understand it.

was that with Sweet Old Bob (gaines) as acting teacher/coarch? Or, wait - you were Mayfield, right?

Yeah, Mayfield. I don't think Gaines would have let us get away with that. We had a young maverick coach.

In the Flesh was great...basically all the Floyd show, including the surround sound on a smaller scale. I got on the front row for that one, and after that I really wouldn't be able to get excited for The Wall, unless maybe it were with the whole Floyd.

I'm all over this. 7th grade all over again. Except now I can go to the show. Closest I'll be to Pink Floyd since Lazer Floyd at the Hayden planetarium, and probably the last chance I'll get. Choked on the $200 ticket price for premium seats, but I'm still excited.

I love the Wall but the show does not interest me. Waters is only doing this because Gilmour said it would be a cold day in hell before he reformed Floyd with Waters in it. The guy burned too many bridges when he sued the rest of the band in the late 80's and he acts like an arrogant *** most of the time when they interview him.

I never knew the inner stuff of that feud since my fandom only goes so far...
but...man, with all that money involved in a reunion it must be pretty deep
stuff for them not to take the money grab at a reunion.

I remember that recent one-off where they played together
(was it Live 8?), and they sounded BETTER than great...it was almost
                          TOO perfect.

The way I understand it, the fued was because of the Pink Floyd name.

After Final Cut Waters wanted Pink Floyd disbanned never to use the name again ... Water's claimed the band was "a spent force"

Gilmour on the other hand did not want Floyd dead.
Mason backed him up on this.

Gilmour admited in the open they (Gilmour and Mason) could sell more records under the Pink Floyd banner rather than the Dave Gilmour banner.

Waters took them to court over the use of the name.
It turned out they never officially put in writing Pink Floyd MUST contain Gilmour, Waters, Mason and Wright to be Pink Floyd.

This loophole made the courts decide in Gilmour's favor.

On top of everything else, Water's did not get cozy with MTV and the media in general during the 80's...
On the other hand Gilmour (Pink Floyd-1987) welcomed all the publicity that MTV and the media could give.

This lead Waters -- on his Radio KAOS tour -- which competed with Pink Floyd to get forgotten by most.

This added fuel to Water's madness because "my own band is competing again me"

To this day - whether he admits it or not, Water's hates Gilmours guts with a passion ... and in turn Gilmour don't want to be around him --- and I really don't blame him.

Yes, it was Live 8, and yes, it sounded awesome. It was as if Gilmour and Waters were doing their best to make sure neither paled in comparison to the other. Saw Gilmour's Live from Gdansk video, and he has begun to lose it vocally.

That's all I could think of the source of the power of that performance as
                                well. (albeit a bit cynical!)
(Also: Thanks for confirming it was LIVE 8).
