    Basement Find

Found this while digging around in my mom's basement today:

Not you, ya creep! He's always bugging me. This:

Must've belonged to my stepdad, because I don't remember ever listening to it. Anyone got an 8-track player?

And thanks to some great advice from rche, by the way, the old Alien's arms are fit as a fiddle again.

I've only had two 8-tracks in my life. James Brown live at the Appolo and the S/T to The Warriors. The weird thing about 8 tracks is how they "flip" over and just keep playing. The player was in the kitchen of one of my first apartments, james brown 24/7 for about 6 months then " nowhere to ruuuuuuun to ba-by....nowwhere to hide" for about 6 months.

Back in the 70's I must have owned like 200+ 8-tracks

My faves were The Beatles Sgt Pepper and Pink Floyd Animals ... Both had 8-track exclusive differences in the recordings.

That sounds cool! My favorites were my mom's copies of Elvis Aloha from Hawaii and Rolling Stones Hot Rocks. I had one of those square portable players, and of course we had the big console stereo with the orange lights that flashed in time to the music.

I had Hot Rocks on 8-Track too.

If i'm remembering correctly, it had the proper UK 45 version of Time Is On My Side without the organ intro .... I think all the records had the organ intro (which I didn't like)

My only 8-tracks that I can remember right now are Nazareth, KISS Alive II and The last Molly Hatchet release before Danny Joe Brown joined. I had a red 8-track boombox.

my dad always had an 8 track player. I remember I used to play Abba's greatest hits all the time before they were cool again.

I have a neat "portable" 8-track player that works pretty good. Tons of 8-tracks. In fact I picked up 4 at a thrift store last summer still in the original shrink wrap (OK they were ABBA but I like ABBA! LOL). I used to have a 79 Chrysler 300 with a factory 8-track player in the dash and picked up tons of them back then.

I had a '67 Mustang in high school with an 8-track. Had a box full of tapes--Van Halen, AC/DC, Queen, etc--that I got rid of later. Surprising that they still sold those things well into the '80s.

I don't have an 8track player per se. but I do have a couple of 2XL robots and they do just fine playing music instead of games.

I still have a couple KISS 8-tracks in a box somewhere. I used to have a nifty red portable stereo 8-track player (with two separate speakers which split apart and were separated by a long cable), and my dad usually had a car with a player, and an 8-track recorder in his home stereo system which came in handy for recording LPs borrowed from friends.

I still love 8-tracks, I was collecting them but kinda gave it a rest for a while. I have one of the Panasonic "TNT box" type 8-track players, but I think it's finally starting to die on me. There's still certain albums that I strongly associate with hearing on 8-track from when I was growing up (like Queen's "Flash Gordon" and Alice Cooper's "Love It To Death"). Alot of times they'd switch the song order around to fit on the tape properly, so later when I got them on cd it took a while to get used to hearing the songs in the "proper" song order!!
