Schools should hire young looking college girls to sit in on classes now and then -- and DO NOT tell the teachers.

Like I said students see a lot more than fellow teachers do.

Then again, if a guy who's so stupid as to make those kind of comments to a 14-year-old girl can pass the interview, how lengthy or in-depth could it be? It's a sad measure of how lowly a teaching position is and how desperate schools are for teachers that all kinds of nuts, including perverts slip through.

I feel for ya teach... because the other problem with perverts like this is unfair association. One bad apple may not spoil the whole bunch but in the public eye people will still question every other faculty member for a while. Hopefully the guy will be able to be permanently black balled from the educational system. God forbid some nut jump to his aid and claim that it's a violation of his civil rights to disclose the reason for his termination. Good Luck and God Bless ya teach.

    I totally agree.
Unless the guy had a police record or history of innapropriate behavior, how can you know?

I'm glad the kids reported him. There was a teacher at my high school who got away with it for far too long. Teach, I'm sorry to hear about this happening in your school. I'm sure that finding that out about a coworker has to be a little rough.

Well, I'm really glad he got caught and I am glad that these days adults pay a lot more attention when kids report this kind of stuff. It's so sad how common it is. :(

Back in the day when I was a student it seemed like 90% of all male teachers gave the girls at least a bit of the googly eye - enough that other students noticed.
This was in grade school and highschool.
Made me think that most male teachers were pervs to some degree.

As a student you see a lot more than you would then a fellow-teacher.

I'm sure there's a lot of good teachers out there --- but I bet there's a lot more pervs than you'd imagine.

Yeah - I agreed with huedell's logic as well, I don't think that makes him a negative type of person to point out that the screening process wasn't going to be 100% effective.

In any case txteach it sounds like you had a really heavy day, but it's great to hear that the kids' claims weren't dismissed. All in all, the system did work and the good guys won before anything too unthinkable happened. So that's great to hear at least!

    Bingo.
And, believe or not *to whom it may concern"...

...I definitely TRY to have tact in my presentation of
my view on topics/debates/discussions----BUT even avoiding
    politics & religion...
there's STILL a ton of touchy subjects.....verbally abusing children

I think it probably hurts more for you, Teach, since it's your school.

If it were at my school, I can imagine that I might even feel like I was somehow "making it okay" because I didn't stop it, even though I didn't know about it. Irrational, but the job extends beyond just content knowledge.

It's just that when you see the same kids at the same school, and you know that some horrible person has done this, you get very protective of them.
