I've got tons and tons of books, novels (not necessarily comic related). Really need to have a good clear out. Any good experiences with Amazon? Is it worth the bother to become a Amazon seller? or should I just car boot it?

The nice thing is you set the price and pay no fees unless it sells. The shipping is flat rated from them so you have to be sure they AMZ shipping price will cover the actual shipping (only a concern for heavy books)
the bad - theu amz search engine isn't narrow and if what you are selling is common it may already have mutiple entries each with other sellers listing it (very common for best seller books and Graphic novels)
But if the prices are low ebay now lest you list for free if starting price is under 1.00 for books -
from experience tried to sell something once .It never got any attention.I put the same item on Ebay it was gone within a week.so to ansWer you question NOComment

From a buyers point of view I usually avoid them unless it's something I can't find anywhere else. I have had some poor shipping from some purchases and two times I purchased an item and weeks later (around the time I was expecting the package) I get messages from the sellers saying the item wasn't in stock and the transaction was canceled. And one time I never received the item, but my card WAS charged and I had to go through Amazon's dispute process to get a credit. So, I avoid the sellers that seem to be private individuals or unknown companies.Comment

Haven't tried selling there yet, but am thinking about giving it a shot. Buying experiences from Amazon marketplace have been positive for me so far (bought an out of print book on Amazon UK and a few toys and books from sellers on Amazon Japan, all transactions went very well)Comment

My recommendation is don't go with them.
If you want to go the ebay route the I would recommend Half.com. Underbid the lowest and watch the items disappear. Sold over 1000 cds in a month.
Also, I try and avoid Amazon all together. Too bad the general public doesn't know the Amazon culture. I use to work there and never again. You have to be a real superficial ****** to work there and they encourage that.
But they keep growing. They are now moving from the old VA hospital up on Beacon Hill to one of the new Paul Allen (what building doesn't he own) buildings being built for Amazon in South Lake Union.
Amazon, the new Walmart of technology. Yes, they now have other services.Comment
