I DVR'd it and watched it yesterday. It was really good. Looking forward to the rest of it. I was nervous they would be doing a lot of revisionist history but didn't notice too much of that in it.

Can't wait tonight to see the 2nd part of the show. It was REALLY good and fun to watch. They should make more shows like this.

Do they take the opportunity to criticize the country?
                  If so...how often?
Or is it pretty straightforward/neutral in its narrative?

So far I haven't noticed anything that jumped out at me. I was totally expecting the "white man stole the native's land" type of angle and recent controversial "revisionist history" things along the lines of "so-and-so wasn't as nice a guy/gal as history shows them" but it's been pretty close to what i remember learning in school so far.

I watched it the other day and I'm anxious to watch more. It's a really good show.

I enjoyed it as well. The second part looks just as good, if not better.

I'm enjoying it over all but I have one gripe. They skipped the French/Indian war and the reason the british decided to up the colonie's taxes.

Yeah, they tend to gloss over some aspects while spending too much time on others but overall it's been well done and unbiased so far.
I've learned things I either never knew or totally forgot.
Perhaps they should've made it a longer series so they could touch on ALL the important things. I expect the next two hours will totally focus on the Civil War.
