Back in the day my local mom and pop ice cream place used top carry them.

I always had to get a pack

Funny thing is, they weren't really that good -- just tasted like chalky sugar --- but I wanted them because I love the fake cigarette packs they came in.

BTW, am I the only person who was ALWAYS let down the "lighted end" never tasted any different than the rest of it ?

I did like the Chalky ones the best

I used to get these and when I was really adventurous, I'd get the bubble gum cigars or cigarettes. They had paper rolled around them and powdered sugar between the paper and the gum so when you puffed on them, "smoke" came out.

My kids get them now, but more often than not, they get the generic "candy sticks" that come in the Spider-Man, X-Men, Hulk, Iron Man, Popeye, or Tom and Jerry boxes with two little candy sticks inside. You can normally find a whole bag of these for about a buck fifty or buy bigger boxes the size of the candy cigarette packs at the dollar store. They have trading cards on the back. You can still find the candy cigarettes though at most gas stations around here.

I bet they didn't dip the "lit" end of a candy cigarette in another flavor because of that one kid, you know the one, who would put their Gramma's burning cigarette into their mouth one sunny afternoon.
It's weird how many toys and things were meant to resemble a "grown-up" activity. I think we can safely lay blame for the rampant tattoo abuse of the last several years on all those fake monster tattoos we had that never worked properly
When I was a kid the only people I ever saw with tattoos were veterans with anchors on their forearms. Now every girl over the age of 18 has a "tramp stamp".

I liked the gum ones better. i agree they were a bad idea to market to kids but they never made me start smoking either.

Oh man, my mom HATED these things! Mainly b/c my dad smoked like a chimney. I did still buy them from time to time, but I told her that I didn't want to smoke, I just wanted these. I also got the bubble gum cigars w/ the paper and powdered sugar "smoke". I seem to remember they tasted like lemon flavored gum.

We still have them at a big candy store by my house. They really are a pretty bad idea.
