He was a famous mime.....probably the only famous mime, something I doubt will ever change. (no disrespect to the deceased).

            toys2cool,

Think Shields and Yarnel, the mime artists in the USA. Only he was on the scene years before them and probably 10 times better at mime than them. I never saw him preform tho.

I do recall a Monty Python bit where Ghrame Chapman parodied him and they said,

"And now Marcel Marceau being hit by a 16 ton wieght.", and then the fake 16 ton weight prop falls on him and he mimes it as it actually falls on him. I hope he had a sense of humor about that. I thought it was funny. Still do.

Shields and Yarnel! Wow, there's a blast from the past.

Marceau was a bilion times more famous. I really think he's the only mime most could ever name (except for John )

I'm sorry, but when I heard the news, I could only think of people making silent, exaggerated tear-wiping gestures.

Ever see Silent Movie? He was in there. Was the only one who spoke in it.

                    Nice one!

I heard that he will be honoured in Paris tomorrow at 11am with one minute of noise.

So, will they put him in the casket posed like he's trying to find his way out of a box???

When I was in Elementary School, I remember a mime came to school and did all of his tricks...trapped in a box, pretending to go up and down elevators and escalators. I still remember it vividly and every once in a while will try to do one of my lame attempts for my kids (although they do buy my walking down the steps) in back of the sofa.
