Even though it's region free it's still probably recorded in PAL format ... which means there's a chance it wont play in your US machine

    I don't know for sure - just a guess

I don't think there is a PAL vs NTSC problem with Hi Def as it's either Mpeg or some flavor of that. So BLu-ray is neither PAL or NTSC, it's hi def and will be the same signal.

I can tell you from my experience with Region 0 Blu Ray...they work in American Machines. I bought a "Black Shield of Falworth" Blu Ray because it was the only way to get the movie in "True" widscreen format. Widescreen or not the movie isn't available here in the US at all in any format. VHS was the only way to get it and that was Fullscreen format. Region 0 will work in your machine. I have a Insignia Blu Ray and it works in that machine.

And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
          The beauty that surrounds them
          Isn't it a pity".

Same here, I have several UK imports and all work on my regular Blu-Ray player. So, I am pretty certain the answer is no, American and English high def are not different. One of the flicks is Black Shield of Falworth also, and it looks unbelievable on Blu-Ray.

Yep, high def is high def, it's neither NTSC, PAL, SECAM, etc. so it will work on any country's player if it is a region free disc. The only time you may run into problems is if the extras are standard definition, then the NTSC/PAL rules apply to those features of the disc (but the movie itself will play fine). And once in a while I've heard of Blu-ray releases with standard def PAL menu screens, but I think this is rare.

I own that blu ray and it does play on US machines. Actually plays pretty good and can notice the high def from the original. I also purchased jeepers creepers blu ray from germany that was encoded to germany just to try a theory. It did work as well. I read somewhere on blu ray digest that there were only a hand full of blu rays that were truly locked to region codes.
