Blog about Classic TV rights tangles that prevent release on DVD

Whose Show Is It Anyway? The Golddiggers

Focuses on the Dean Martin Show, recently released on video but then stopped becasue NBC Universal asserted ownership over the current copyright holder.

Also touches on the Fox/Warner Batman TV show stand off and something I never knew about Star Trek's early copyright (or lack therof) life concerning the fist season.

I haven't read the whole article yet but NBC should bow out.

As an example: their slimy efforts to try and hold back David Letterman's older material they have proven they do not have the artists best interests in mind. After the mega-sucess series like Seinfeld, NBC in particular, has been looking to own many more series that make it to air in the hopes of making money even further once the show goes off the air. Once the show is done the network should get lost. They only aired the show. Yes they may have put up money to have it made but they recoup that in selling commercial time.
