When I was a kid there was no crayon for my skin color so I used Orange like ernie. I still do often in fantasy artwork and YES Mego Mugato ROCKS because of this!

Also I hear theres an Adult Ernie Sweater pattern out there some where :-)!!!!!

I love Roosevelt Franklin, too, and boy did I get a laugh from Guy Smiley.
Herry Monster was pretty deadpan.
Really hard to choose one, but Oscar would have to be the ONE since his range of humor encompasses so much of what other characters get more specific with.

heck I even was into his classmates....its amazing how much
HARDHEAD HARRIS has faded from the public consciousness, I don't even
think he's menrtioned on Franklin's wiki page.
