B.O.B. had a few episodes to develop the characters so you kind of knew who they were before D-Day.

The Pacific is good but it right out the gate, they are invading Guadelcanal and it's trying to pick up the storyline between action sequences.

I think for me, I had to stop and put it all into perspective. In comparing The Pacific to BOB, I failed to realize that I've seen BOB multiple times, at this point. I NOW know how the story unfolded, but at the time, I remember getting the characters confused for the first several episodes. (my point is, no movie or series makes sense when you are only 30% into it.)

Here is something to realize about the connected story in The Pacific that might help.

The story is formed around the memoirs and books that Eugene Sledge (the young guy with the heart murmur...played by the guy that played the kid in Jurassic Park) and Robert Leckie (Bob Leckie is our "point of view character" to this point) wrote about their war experiences. Sidney Phillips is the connection. Sid is the guy who was Sledge's best friend (the guy who turned 18 around the time of the first battle) and he served in the same Company as Leckie.

"Eugene was my best friend. We were so bad in that school band, just cutting up. He was the best man at my wedding. And Robert Leckie, we were in the same company in the war. I knew him well," Phillips said.

Leckie fought at Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, and Peleliu.
Phillips fought at Guadalcanal and Cape Gloucester.
Sledge fought at Peleliu and Okinawa.

Another perspective is that of Medal of Honor Recipient John Basilone. He was with Leckie and Phillips at Guadalcanal and later fought at Iwo Jima.

It's going to tie together well.

actually, I was compelled with BOB from the first episode.

I just don't think the source material and narrative structure of the Pacific is as strong.
        Fresh, not from concentrate.

Interesting. I think I will have to give the source materials a try. Just checked amazon - so it looks like "Helmet for My Pillow" and "With the Old Breed" are the two books.
