For me it was a bad Famous Covers Silver Surfer custom. In the late 90's, I had an account with Diamond and was selling FC's. I would buy a case of each figure, keep one for myself, a sell the rest of the figures to make money for my Mego hobby. Around the same time I discovered the Museum and read the article about how to make molds and reproduce Mego heads. the first head I tried to make a mold of was the Torch, which came out OK. I also started ripping apart my FCs to make Mego kitbash customs. This left me with a lot of nude and headless FC bodies. I took the Torch head I made and attached it to a FC body, just to practice customizing. I had some Silver spraypaint in the boil room. I spray painted this figure. I put it on EBAY, thinking I might get $10 for it. I was shocked when it sold for $65.

The most expensive thing I ever bought on Ebay was a complete set of loose Mego Trek figures. It came with this electronic plastic Enterprise that I gave not one crap about, so I put it back up on Ebay and it sold for like $127. I was floored.
But that don't beatComment

Back before digital camera became ubiquitous, darkroom equipment was very popular on ebay. I discovered this when I posted a very large stainless steel development tray that I would have been happy getting $10 for. $275 later...Comment

I sold a pre WW2 made in Nippon violin (really lousy condition - including being cracked) and got like 60 bucks bucks for it.
Also, I sold a Beatles '65 silk neck tie made in the 1990's and it ended at around $80.00 ... That was a nice surprise considering I thought it might be worth like 12 bucksComment

That's an easy one... Not the 'worst', but a big money maker..:
Back in '81 when the Stones came through, this local record store had a huge stack of smaller Stones tour posters. Well, they were going to toss them, so i grabbed them and kept them in pristine condition.. Twenty years later I sold them on eBay one by one..
Most sold for $20, but near the end I sold some of the last ones for $50 a piece. I've still held on to a few, but I made a good extra income for a while.

PS: I also bought a minty MMM Doug Davis for $40, then three years later some guy on eBay bought it from me for $390. Doesn't happen often, but it's funny how those things work..Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.

I put up an unopened bottle of PAL'S Vitamins still sealed in the original box on Ebay....I started the auction at $3.00 and thought it would end at around $30-$40 dollars....to my surprize the auction ended at $980.00....and the winner sent 2 money orders for the full amount plus shipping.Comment

About five or six years ago, I bought a whole bunch of stuff at a toyshow including a Maddie Mod outfit for $3. The reason I bought it was it was on a pink blister card and kind of reminded me of the later AJ sets.
When I got home though I realized I had no real interest in it and popped it on Ebay. Well, it's pretty rare and two people wanted it badly, ended up getting $180 for it.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

After 12yrs on eBay, the problems I've had have been so miniscule by comparison..
It's not that uncommon to have transaction issues with on-line auctions anywhere (Craigs List, etc..), but it's more the people involved than the service itself..
eBay's been great for me..

When I first moved out on my own, I bought a mixed up hodge podge bag of silverware at a yard sale for about $2. I didn't realize it at the time, but some of the pieces were real silver but badly tarnished. I didn't want to use them so I set them aside. Years later I took them out and decided to put them on Ebay, just to get rid of them. I had about 10 of them and to my surprise they ranged in final selling price of $25 to $80 each.Comment
