    Any Book Experts (binding)

I bought a collection of Sugar Bowl programs from the 50's and 60's, but they are bound inside a book. They are mint condition and you can look on the side and make out each program.

I was just wondering how these things are bound. Are they sewn in, or is the thread just sandwiching them together?

Can you post a pic? I'm guessing that you wouldn't want to bend the spine back to see if there was stitching between the pages, but I'm gonna guess that the pages are stitched or worse the covers are stitched and the spines are glued in.
      It's all good!

Most i have seen are stitched and glued.....i had a CFL collection bound and a toronto maple leaf one bound they normally were done for the producer of the programs for later reference..........comic companies also did this years ago

OK, I opened it up a little. They are stitched in through the holes that the staples had made, but they are glued together (just cover to back cover, not within each program).

How much do you think it would cost me to send it to a book doctor and have it unbound, re-stapled, and separated without damaging the covers (or as little damage as possible)?

The first program in the book is worth about $500 in good condition, the second one is worth about $250, and the fourth one is worth about $300 (probably alot more). Plus the other three are worth $50-$100 each.

I paid $300 for this book and only really want the 2nd program (I have the first).

With these things being bound in a book for who knows how long, they are MINT!!! (except the glue on the spine edge)

I wouldn't think it would cost much but it will all depend on how much time and effort is needed. I don't know if they would steam the glue off or there is some kind of safe agent that could be applied and removed.

Just make sure you ask around and be sure you get the right person. Unfortunately, I had the bad experience of purchasing a valuable pennant that had some staining on it, took it to a reputable dry cleaner who assured me they have handled items more delicate than this and it would be no problem only to receive the pennant back in worse shape then when I handed it to them.
