I like ABBA as well. Maybe it would be better if they chnaged the name to The MUSIC Hall of Fame.

The Stooges could win the prize of "Most respected band ever" from where
I've stood the past decade...it's all I ever hear about 'round my circles."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

Actually ABBA was quite the band in their time. At one point they were Sweden's top grossing exporter surpassing Volvo. They made an estimated $200,000,000 in straight record sales which is almost double KISS' estimates. KISS has had a lot longer time in the industry too. ABBA was far superior on the world market while KISS was larger here in the US. Not a big fan of ABBA but obviously some people were. Mamma Mia! the musical based on ABBA's music netted over $100 million in it's international sales alone. I'm guessing that jumped their career earnings up a tad. Supposedly they all have become big business investors in their native country and are still doing quite well outside the music industry. Definitly not MC Hammer or Willie Nelson-esque. Can't say they should be in the R&R Hall of Fame, maybe it should be the Music Hall of Fame instead. Makes more sense. Therefore it will never happen. It's not a doll it's an action figure.Comment

From wikipedia ........
The main criticism of the Hall of Fame is that the nomination process is controlled by a few individuals who are not musicians, such as founder Jann Wenner, (who has filled the position of managing editor for Rolling Stone magazine), former foundation director Suzan Evans, and writer Dave Marsh, reflecting their tastes rather than the views of the rock world as a whole. A former member of the nominations board once commented that "At one point Suzan Evans lamented the choices being made because there weren't enough big names that would sell tickets to the dinner. That was quickly remedied by dropping one of the doo-wop groups being considered in favor of a 'name' artist...I saw how certain pioneering artists of the '50s and early '60s were shunned because there needed to be more name power on the list, resulting in '70s superstars getting in before the people who made it possible for them. Some of those pioneers still aren't in today."[15] According to Fox News, petitions with tens of thousands of signatures were also being ignored, and some groups that were signed with certain labels or companies or were affiliated with various committee members have even been put up for nomination with no discussion at all.[15] The committee has also been accused of largely ignoring certain genres.[16] According to author Brett Milano, "entire genres get passed over, particularly progressive rock, '60s Top 40, New Orleans funk and a whole lot of black music."[17]
Another criticism is that too many artists are inducted. In fifteen years, 97 different artists have been inducted.[18] A minimum of 50% of the vote is needed to be inducted, although the final percentages are not announced and a certain number of inductees (five in 2009) is set before the ballots are shipped.[18] The committee usually nominates a small number of artists (12 in 2010) from an increasing number of different genres. Several voters, including Joel Selvin, himself a former member of the nominating committee, didn't submit their ballots in 2007 because they didn't feel that any of the candidates were truly worthy.
On March 14, two days after the 2007 induction ceremony, Roger Friedman of Fox News published an article claiming that The Dave Clark Five should have been the fifth inductee, as they had more votes than inductee Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. The article went on to say "[Jann Wenner] used a technicality about the day votes were due in. In reality, The Dave Clark Five got six more votes than Grandmaster Flash. But he felt we couldn't go another year without a rap act."[21]
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame would later deny fixing the vote, although they did not deny that late votes were received, saying, "No. There is a format and rules and procedure. There is a specific time when the votes have to be in, and then they are counted. The bands with the top five votes got in."[22]
The Dave Clark Five was subsequently nominated again and then inducted the following year.[23]

I read that LL Cool J was up for nomination already. LL didn't get in this year. He may get in, in a year or two, though.
Do you know that Three Dog Night, Boston, Hall & Oates, Chicago, Styx, Journey, Jim Croce, John Denver, the Carpenters and RUSH all have NOT been inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame?....!! Something doesn't compute.

I'd tend to agree...we kinda have the same tastes...
but I like a lot more cheesy stuff than they ever would give attention...I've always had a sweet spot for popular music...especially 1955-1985.
Also, they (my friends here in L.A. in 2010) are the ones that turned me onto
all punk and garage rock that is considered "cool"---don't know what
it is about having grown up in Philly in the 70s/80s/90s but L.A. people
totally eclipse the Philly people when it comes to "hip" "underground" "important" music
in the rock---punk---metal ----fields.
(If I didn't like my friends so much...sometimes I'd think they "overrate"
some artists)Last edited by huedell; Mar 16, '10, 7:09 PM."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. BTW...just to stay in topic...
Yes...ABBA deserves to be inducted...at their peek...they were truly at top of the world...great tunes...recognized the world over.
In my humble opinion...KISS is a notch below in terms of world stage prestige...but they will eventually get in...in due time.
As far as Peter Gabriel not being there...I certainly don't hold it against him...it's his call...and only he knows what's currently behind the scenes as to why he won't participate...you just can't hate on the man for his own personal conflicts/principles.Last edited by Hector; Mar 16, '10, 9:10 PM.sigpicComment

R&r Hof
The R&R Hall of Fame is a complete joke. I'll admit my bias for KISS, so I won't even argue their inclusion. But the fact that Chicago hasn't been elected is mind boggling!
Their hits in the '60s, '70s, '80s, and '90s have given the band a combined 19 gold albums, 13 platinum, 12 Top 10s, and 5 No. 1s. Of their singles, Chicago enjoys 20 Top 10 hits, five No. 1 records, and five gold singles. In all, Chicago has sold more than 120,000,000 records.
Jann Wenner and Dave Marsh can suck it!Comment

how many of the actually play instruments and don't borrow james brown samples?
Rappers and Dj's found a new way to express themselves by sampling music and taking into a whole new direction...many of those Dj's and Rappers are musicians now and actually create new beats. So they just don't take from old records.
Hip Hop since the 80's has influenced the way kids teens and adults dress and listen to music.Last edited by kingdom warrior; Mar 16, '10, 10:20 PM.Comment
