Just a quick hands on this board.
Is there people that still play role playing games?
Not talking the computer.
I am talking hard core with dice, maps and a Game/Dungeon Master.
Once in a blue moon, I go over to my uncles and play a Marvel Super heroes game he converted into his own system using DC heroes. My uncle is pretty smart and he owns every comic book from DC and Marvel through the late 70s to some modern books. He has stats figured and re-figured of just about every DC and Marvel Character. It is pretty precise. I know if he sold his game to a game company he'd be rich but he says "its not ready for that yet." OK?
He has created 3-D maps using models, buildings and several terrain looking areas. He made a glass kitchen table into a 3-D innerchangable map and snapped off Hero clix figures and reglued and painted them to a stand for figures of the game.
Thinking about it, we have been doing it since we were teens (back in the day using pewter figures). I was pretty young when started working out ideas for this game. This is where a lot my original characters came from while inviting story lines and scenarios.
The modern system is really fun! One of us writes a story and puts a chracter through it. With our busy lives we don't do it often but once in awhile I spend time with my Uncle and break out the super hero roll playing game.
Also, up until 2006, I was playing Dungeons and Dragons with several nerds of my age that had a campaign and begged my girlfirend at the time (along with me to join them). It was fun at first but with one guy always wanting to be the Dungeon Master it got old after awhile.
It was a challenge for me to play a Lawful good paladin but it made it fun and interesting always sticking to the character's persona.
Today, I still have maps, those new DVD plastic figures along with tons of dice. I doubt I'd ever play again but I was curious if anyone every gets back into the role playing even with the Internet?
I played the online game Everquest about five year ago and it was fun but nothing beats a room full of friends and a case of Moutain Dew.
I just don't have time for it anymore and same with my friends. Those were the days I suppose.
