Laid Off

I just got laid off from a company I've been working for,for the past ten years(two weeks after my B-day to,thanks you B@$*&^%).I saw things headed this way about two years ago so I applied for and was lucky enough to get a job with the City.The pay is better with the city anyway.For the past two years I've been working two full time jobs.Man was I ever S M R T!!!I was the highest up on seniority ran three departments.I was one of the last to go.Dang computers took over.All they have left is upper management and secretaries.

I feel both sad and joyed at the same time.I was with them since my oldest daughter was a newborn.Life is so funny sometimes.Anyway what am I going to do now working only forty hours a week?
I know I really start cranking out some customs I've been wanting to do for awhile now...Thanks for listening guys/girls.

Sorry you got laid off, but at least you were smart enough to have covered your butt.

It's ashame you were laid off, but at least you had the foresight to secure another job. Now you can spend more time w/ your family and work on your hobby, and hang out w/ us MegoHeads!

And here I was coming into this thread feeling bad for you. Turns out congrats are in order! You can only work 2 jobs for so long. Congrats on a 40 hour week!

My sentiments exactly. In stead of working yourself to death with 2 jobs you'll now have more time for your family (and customs), so congrats

Thanks guys/girls.I don't know about tough,you just do what you must when you have people depending on you.Tough is what I would call my wife for handling almost everything for the past while.Forsight yes,like I said I saw this coming for the last two years.I feel so rested now;i just had two days off in a row... This week is going to fly by now.Thanks again guys/girls for all the support.

I have been there and even though you have a new job sometimes you have bad feelings especially when you have put in so much time there.

I was with a company for 12 years and it ended up going bankrupt because they got greedy during the tech boom, took on lots of debt, started gobbling up companies and when the market came crashing down, sales fell off 50% and they literally could not pay back the debt they owed. 2/3 of the company was methodically laid off over the following 2 years and it was always anxiety ridden because you never knew if you were on the chopping block. I was never let go but transferred into a position that I didn't enjoy. I gave it a year and a half to see if I could make the position work but I realized it wasn't what I wanted and the quality of my work was suffering.

I really enjoyed working there but called it quits and did it with no hard feelings or burned bridges.

A few years later, I landed a job with a small biotech firm that was spinning off from a large pharmaceutical company. They had a great technology and great game plan for getting into what I call the enhanced generic drug business (basically taking a drug coming off patent and adding a proprietary extended release formula). To get to the point, I was there 3 months, negotiations broke down with the spinoff and the company laid off 2/3 of the company (me included)...two days before Christmas.

I could not believe it. I was freaking out because I am the soul bread winner for the family and 3 months with a company is not going to get you a nice layoff package. Thankfully, they were nice enough to give me 3 months severance, pay me 25% of my proposed bonus, and paid for the Cobra portion of my insurance....they felt horrible about what happened and wanted to ensure the employees were taken care of and I really appreciated it.

Thankfully, I landed a job in one month, 20 miles closer to home, and making more than I was making there. I have been at my current employer for close to 2 years and I absolutely love it. So there is a silver lining. Had I not been laid off, I would have never have even been looking for this spectacular job just 10 miles from home.
