Here's one that goes for a pretty penny.

My friend John (txteach) actually met this guy (who needs no introduction) I like hearing his story over and over.

The only signatures I got are from the B-side guys my band has opened up for through the years like George Lynch, Steve Perkins, Joey Ramone...etc.
I got no A listers in my signature collection.

Hey Scott, that Reeve autograph is priceless! How was he to meet? What did you say to him? I'd likely have been a blubbering fool in his presence! THAT is one hell of an autograph to have!

A few years ago a friend got me in to autographs through the mail. A great resource is FanMail.biz: The Celebrity Addresses Database. I'm amazed at how many athletes & celebs will sign & return an item for you.

And once or twice a year they do a celebrity auction around here for charity and I've bought a few autos from them to support the Children's Miracle Network. It's funny sometimes because around this area, I've been there and seen someone pay $40-50 to get some Nascar driver's signature, and yet they pass up stuff like Roger Federer (whom I bought for a dollar!), Jennie Finch (again, a dollar), & Mike Euruzione (signed 1980 USA puck- $5.00!). Better for me I guess!

A few years back I put together a Miracle on Ice complete auto set...the only one I was missing was coach Herb Brooks. I sent him a card c/o The Pittsburgh Penguins whom he was coaching. He signed it, I got it back in a few days only, completing my set. Sadly, he was killed only a few weeks after that in a car accident. I've had great success with hockey players ttm - Brett Hull, Jaromir Jagr, Lemieux, Yzerman, & others.

He was the coolest guy ever. He had a little question and answer thing. He talked about how Superman III and VI were a mistake to do and how he LOVED making Somewhere in Time & Jane Seymore. He talked about how he would watch the faces of little kids kinda drop when he would come on stage when they would see Superman had aged. A real classy guy and I did shake his hand when he signed my pic of him as Superman.

Even though I am a HUGE sports collector, I am not a big autograph collector. I do have alot signed of stuff in my collection, but it does not matter much to me either way. I find stuff signed all the time at thrift stores, and I give them away on my site, or if I go to an event, I will get something signed and give it away.

The only thing I really like to get are books signed by the author. My dream piece to obain is a signed copy of Pete Maravich's autobiography. He died only a couple months after it was released, so it is VERY RARE. (great read BTW, incredible life story)

Just a COA'd Maravich autograph runs near $1000 all day long, so I am guessing a copy of his book will be $2000+.

My favorite two autographs I own now are:

LSU coach (the late) Charles McClendon:

And a baseball featuring the entire 2000 National Championship team (including the late Wally Pontiff):

Wally's autograph is pretty rare and valuable. Funny thing, a month ago or so, I found a hat with his autograph (and 7 other players from 2001) for .50 cents at a thrift store.

I paid $50 for the ball above and sold the hat for $50 to pay for it!!!

Oh man! That is just awesome! What a once in a lifetime experience Scott. He was such a big part of my childhood and it was just an amazing experience seeing Superman The Movie as a kid. I would've really loved to have been able to tell him in person how much he'smeant to me and inspired me. I'll always regret that. What a great guy he was by all accounts. You're a lucky man Scott A.

I used to collect them, but I've more or less stopped because of the $$$$$.
I ran my own movie convention, so I got to meet the actors, have dinner with them (and get a free autograph!).

I have a few favourites, like Christopher Lee.
I always wanted a Dracula item signed by him, but he refuses to sign those. So I have his autobiographical DVD, a SW one, and Scaramanga.

When I was younger, I collected them through the mail, writing to agent addresses and such, but it's hard to find good addresses these days.

I reallay wanted a Richard Dreyfuss autograph, be he kept canceling his appearances at Collectormania (Right, Wolfie?).
Wolfie tried to get this done for me, but Dreyfuss always canceled days before the con.
                  Very frustrating!

I collect them. I like autographs of things that interest me and that can cover a wide range of topics. I have Confederate States President Jefferson Davis's autograph, The whole main cast of the original Star Trek, most of the Buffy cast, many classic stars, Astronauts, Jimmy Doolittle, Alizee, plus others. I do have a big binder filled with them but as I've gone to conventions I find my interest in meeting celebrities waning.

Most of them are awesome but others (David Prowse *cough*) have been big piles of jerkass. Last year I stood there just staring at Gil Gerard, he must have been creeped out but I couldn't pull the trigger because I didn't want to stop watching Buck Rogers.

I got Gil Gerard through the mail, a quick return on two signed Buck Rogers trading cards. I met Erin Gray a couple years ago at the Pittsburgh Comic-Con and got a signed photo from her.She was still just as beautiful and super-nice.

I actually collect original B&W signed press kit photos. I made myself a list films/actors I wanted, and hunted them down, and I tell u its not an easy task, still a few missing of the list, but nearly there. Ive got things like
                            dustin hoffman/anne bancroft-the graduate
                            paul newman- the sting (x2)
                            heston-POTA
                            andress- clash of the titans
                            michael york-logans run
                            kirk douglas-saturn 7
                            clint eastwood-magnum force
                            doug mcclure-war lords of atalantis

around 40, I know this may sound starnge, but it feels Ive captured something from them having their signs, which they took some small mili-second out of their life to do this.

Still looking for a nice Peter Cushing, a Alec Guiness on a star wars one, went for $400, a couple of weeks ago, just didnt have the money.

I've done the via mail stuff, got lynda carter's ... took seven years to get it back lol lol well worth the wait. I did get Jeniffer love hewitts at a chance meeting at a portland radio station when she was trying to promote her album, a few years before her talking to ghosts TV show. she was pretty cool, but sadly she was wearing an oversized sweatshirt. lol lol
