The best donuts I've had in the Bay Area are in San Bruno, Ca (just south of San Francisco, by the airport)...it's called Rolling Pin Donuts...they are to die for...
They are really creamy and fluffy:
Funky donut shop too:

I used to like Country Style donuts. I think they were an Alberta only chain, but Tim Hortons clobbered them into submission....as they have done with the Robins, Krispy Kreme, and Coffee Time chains out here. Now its Timmys or nuthin!! Luckily, Tims donuts are pretty good.
Theres a store in Red Deer that makes great donuts too.I cant recall the name though? I want to say Windmill donuts...because they have a giant windmill in front, but that doesnt sound right?"Crayons taste like purple!"Comment

We still have a Country Style right here in downtown Hamilton! It's not like it used to be, however, it's some kind of mutant with a deli. I remember when there were more Robins and Country Times as well, plus a half dozen other small chain stores like Mr. C's and Baker's Dozen, not to mention all the independants. Most of that is gone now and I think I know why.
Horton's is like the McDonald's of coffee places. People know what they're getting wherever they are and they can expect the same thing they are used to everytime. In the mall there's a million places to get coffee, but the line-up outside Tim's is always the longest. It's just more comfortable for some people. Okay, alot of people.
It's a good/bad thing. I remember going to the donut shop after church when I was a kid and getting a fresh chocolate dip donut made in the store. It almost looked as good as the one Hector posted a picture of. But I know at that time if you went down the road awhile you'd find another Horton's with the worst donuts you'd ever had. They want things to be consistent, and donut's are suprisingly easy to screw up. But other things are sacrificed.Comment

Living in the rural north, there's not much for big box donut shops around. There were a few Dunkin Donuts, but they have sinced closed. Krispy Kreme never made it up to this area. I've had them and can't say that I much care for them. The best around this area come from a small bakery in Petoskey called "Johan's". The holland cream filled long johns are secong to none.sigpicComment

I only like plain donuts.
Nothing in and nothing on them.
Too much sugar makes my teeth ache....

As a fellow Michigander,....thank you! Last year, in response to a similar thread on another forum, I posted that there are no chain donut shops around here and people actually called me a liar! Some folks just cannot comprehend a world without DD, THs or KK. When you grow up only being able to buy donuts at an honest-to-goodness local bakery, big box chain donut shops just hold no appeal. So when I have seen one while traveling, I have simply passed it by.Looking for MOC Pocket Super Heroes...
