Dunkin Donuts taste like plastic to me.
Used to be a chain in Buffalo called Dickie's Donuts and they were awesome. Freddie's Doughnuts were a Buffalo institution when I was growing up also but I think They went out of business years and years ago.
Tops Markets used to make awesome donuts too but I haven't lived in Buffalo for over a decade so I don't know of their quality today. Tim Horton basically came in after I moved away so I can't vouch for them and we have none here in AZ.
Krispy Kreme do not live up to the hype to me.
In fact, I haven't found any really good donuts out here but I don't really eat too many of them anymore so haven't looked very hard.

Dunkin Donuts - I think has the best chain donuts. Most of the Krispy Kremes that opened in this area closed very quickly.
But if I can I would go to a local place "The Big Apple" they are a apple orchard that also sells donuts. They have a machine from the early 1900s that makes the donuts in front of you. You can have plain sugar or ciniman thats it.Comment

The Dunkin Donuts by me doesn't make donuts in the store ... they're shipped in at 4:00AM out of an unmarked trailer.
That turns me off to all Dunkin Donuts.
Also not a fan of Krispy Kremes either
They're too light and airy for me ... I feel like i'm paying for 50% airLast edited by Mikey; Feb 27, '10, 5:06 PM.Comment

I live in Hamilton, Canada, where Tim Horton's began. There is literally a "Timmy's" every block or so. Fortunately I like Tim Horton's, but I sometimes wonder if I ever really had a choice. Some other shops cause a brief stir for a time, but they are usually stifled. Horton's is so huge here it just crushes them unconsciously, like a mindless killing machine.
Incidently, it was a huge controversy but a number of years ago Horton's stopped making their donuts in the store, at least around here. The idea of trucks bringing the stuff in at four A.M. seemed sinister but we all soon buckled and eventually forgot about it altogether. They could be coming straight from the Soylent factory for all we know.Comment

I like Krispy Kreme, Winchells, and our local fave, Colonial Donuts. My fave donuts are glazed, custard filled maple bar, devil's food, apple fritters and raspberry jelly filled."Do you believe, you believe in magic?

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

Living in the rural north, there's not much for big box donut shops around. There were a few Dunkin Donuts, but they have sinced closed. Krispy Kreme never made it up to this area. I've had them and can't say that I much care for them. The best around this area come from a small bakery in Petoskey called "Johan's". The holland cream filled long johns are secong to none.Looking for MOC Pocket Super Heroes...

The overall best place I've found is in Washington PA, just off of one of the exits. I wish I could remember the name. They do a nice chocolate cream & peanutbutter cream. Also, they do seasonal, like pumpkin, cider & pumpkin cream. Folks heading West to the Meet might want to look for it on the way.
Others:
Chocolate cream from Weis Markets
Choc cream from DD on the interstate somewhere between Buffalo & Syracuse
Dunkin's Old Fashioned with the handle
My favorite eclairs come from a coffee shop in the mall at Horseheads NY. They're the size of a Chipotle burrito...and probably twice as healthy.
Tim Horton's, DD & Krispy all have their place when I'm in the mood. I actually had a prune paczki from Kroger last night that was pretty good.Comment
