My parents are in Philly and flying to Cabo San Lucas in a day or two.
Looks like they're leaving a lot of nasty weather behind!
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
I'm not looking forward to walking down the hill to the subway at 5am. On top of that I have to take the long way. Due to the wet and heavy snow, branches are breaking off of trees. A man was killed this evening in Central Park when a falling branch landed on him. So, on my way to the train, I'll walk around the park that I typically walk through.
I'm still deciding whether to go to work or not. The daycare where I have my first appointment is open, but the school where I go after that is closed. It looks like there's just a covering of snow on the roads, but the news is advising not to go out if you don't have to. When I called the daycare, they said that the roads are nasty in some spots.
Hey! Where's the waiter with the water for my daughter?
Looked out my window this morning, and it looks like the Ice Planet HOTH out there from THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK !
When I was a kid, it was days like this when 6 of my friends and I would head outside with our Kenner STAR WARS toys and re-create the Battle of Hoth!
As I recall, between my friends and I, we had about four Imperial AT-AT walkers (not bad since there were five in the film), I also had one AT-ST "scout walker", we had about 7 Rebel Snowspeeders, 3 or four of those Rebel Gun towers and Radar Dish Cannons, and about 18 or 19 Rebel Soldier action figures.
We would dig a battle trench in the snow, place some Soldiers in with their guns, and slowly march the AT-ATs toward the rebel line of defense blasting away. Some other friends would pilot the attacking Snowspeeders. They even managed to trip one walker up with the harpoon cable and line (which we had to create ourselves with twine since the string that came with the speeder toy was woefully short and would not even wrap around the AT-ATs legs once!
Ah... good times! Today of course, you could NEVER get me out into that darn snow for any sustained period of time on my own accord! I'm too old, and too dammed crotchety to deal with the cold! Can't stand being out in the snow!
Besides, I can play the Battle of Hoth just fine from indoors now!
