My lovely spouse who prides herself in being a refined opera lover, has been going all Jekyll this week with her Quebecois side taking dominance in full Hockey Goon mode.
Normally it's only during playoffs that you see her trolling the streets of Toronto when the bars let out, wearing her Habs Jersey looking for Leafs fans to taunt.
I mean who could possibly hate the Swiss? Overtime/shootout or not, it's still the land of chocolate.Comment

I guess I have the same feelings about hockey as others do about soccer....just not that into it.
I do find it humorous that the U.S. beat Canada because of all the trash talk. Then again, we have been embarassed in basketball in the summer olympics a few times."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

Got this off Facebook:
Our Father, who art in GM Place, hockey be thy name. Thy will be done, GOLD to be WON on ICE as well as IN THE STANDS. Give us this day, our hockey sticks, and forgive us our penalties, as we forgive those who crosscheck against us. Lead us not into elimination, but deliver us to victory, in the name of the fans, CANADA, and the HOLY PUCK. AMENComment

So just a small lesson for hockey fans.
Last night my lovely spouse and I are at the Soulpepper Theatre in Toronto's Distillery district catching a fantastic performance of Billy Bishop Goes to War, one of Canada's most acclaimed and successful theatrical plays, with Eric Peterson (from Corner Gas) who originated the role four decades ago and brought it to Broadway with much fanfare.
They were into the first period and my lovely spouse decided that she needed to keep track of the score, so kept her celphone on and kept checking the TSN updates.
Twenty minutes into the production, Eric Peterson STOPS THE PLAY in mid-performance to address her and her celphone directly, and amicably requested that she turn it off because it's so distracting to him (with the overt subtext that it was pretty disrespectful as well). The audience breaks out in thunderous applause as she shamefully turns it off (and you can hear about a half dozen other cel phones powering down at the same time), and Mr Peterson gets back into character and resumes the performance.
Of course that didn't stop her from dragging me out at intermission to the Mill Street Brewery across the street to try and catch the final period before the performance resumed.
Aside from that though, it was a wonderful moment for the Canadian Women to get the Hat Trick in Olympic Gold Medals. Let's hope our Men have the right stuff on Sunday.
And we got home in time to catch the end of the Women's figure skating and Rochette's moving bronze win.Comment
