    Pawn Stars

I just got into this and have been burning through the past seasons episodes.

They do feature some really cool stuff.

I think they totally got burned paying $75 bucks for a box of quarter bin comics and I think they shouldn't have turned down the Pez's, particularly since they came in original boxes and had gems like the original Cape Batman Pez. $1000 bucks seems like a deal for the Pez lot.

    Chumlee is a riot.

Anyone live near Vegas? I think it would be a hoot to bring in your Mego collection to see what they would offer you for it. Perhaps even get on TV

Think B.A. Where did you hide the Megos?

I think some of the items that come in must be pre-arranged by the producers. I can't imagine the TV crew waits around day after day hoping for interesting stuff to come in. What I'm thinking about mostly is the amazingly rare historical stuff.. way too much of that seems to find its way there. I can't imagine the guy who had the million dollars worth of spanish shipwreck coins would otherwise wander into a pawn shop in vegas..

Plus, having it pre-arranged is likely necessary from a production efficiency standpoint. It's how they can crank out the eps fast.

I heard a radio interview with Rick (the main guy) a few weeks ago where he bragged about how "well off" he was. He also talked about how it was next to impossible to get a pawn license in vegas nowadays, so his shop is basically the only game in town.

Isn't this just the American Chopper formula applied to Antiques Roadshow?
I enjoy watching it to see what kinda goofy stuff comes through the door, but that is not a pawn shop.

There'd really be no other way to make that show other than having pre-arranged sales.

Who other than me would watch half-hour episodes of methed out roofers selling tools and crack*****s trying to sell toasters and baby clothes?

I think the issue with the Pez dispensers was the guy selling them knew more about them than the Pawn Stars. I think the point made was that in order for them to make any money, they'd have to break up the collection one by one and sell them that way which really isn't the way they do business....they are looking for pretty quick inventory turns.

I think that is why they sometimes pay 75% of value for some items and maybe 40-50% on others because they already have a willing buyer. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the experts have some prearranged deal to buy the item at some markup in exchange for their services.

It's a good show. My favorite Chumlee moment was the episode when he was testing out a kite, it got tangled on a cell tower or large light and he said to the seller "I really don't think I'm interested in buying this"

People must be watching it, even reruns.... I started my commercial this past Monday and had 6 calls right in a row when the commercial aired... I am hoping that many people hoarding collections watch the American Pickers and Pawn Stars, I know I am hooked!
