As a classic movie merch collector, I really wish you had not just done that. I HAVE one of those, and it is actually a promotional item for "Africa Screams" in 1949,featuring Bud Abbot and Lou Costello. They were raffled off after each showing (you wrote your name on the back of the movie stub and put it in a "Raffle barrel") and at the end of the movie they would call out the name of the winner. each theater was supposed to receive enough for the opening day showings, however most arrived broken or in poor condition. There were an estimated 500 of them that survived. It came with a lobby card signed by both Abbot and Costello. The one known complete set has only changed hands at auction 4 times each time commanding a higher price. A few of the lobby cards have surfaced from time to time commanding an average $1000 price tag. But the real gem is the bank which was most likely used, and broken open as it pre-dated the plug. The Lobby cards are difficult to track down, but not impossible. A set of both last auctioned for $12,465.00, and that was in 1988!
I got my set as a hand me down bequated when my grandfather died, He LOVED Abbot and Costello, and was thrilled that he won this in the theater.
So I guess I should thank you for making mine even more valuable, as less than 50 banks are accounted for.
Good try. This bank was made in 1973. There was a news paper in the bottom, stuck inside the cast. It was dated 1973. It was placed there to cushion the coins when they hit the bottom.
