Ohio has 6 or the most miserable cities in the US and one of them isn't Columbus...the fix is in! (<;

Well, it's safe to say I live in the most miserable state. Cleveland, Akron, TOledo, Canton and Youngstown are on this list. I kinda always thought this, so this is validation. Here's some contributing factors

1. Unpredictable weather. 78 and sunny on Thursday, 34 with snow on Friday. No joke. We're the only state that you need to turn on the air conditioner and heater in the same day.

2. Pro sports teams. Bengals, Reds, Browns, Indians. WHo wouldn't be depressed?

3. Pop. We're the only state left that still uses that term for soft drinks. Go out of state and ask for a diet pop and see the looks you get.

4. Distance in Ohio is measured in time. If you ask someone how far they live form their work they'll tell you ten minutes.

5. THe Ohio River actually and legally belongs to Kentucky.

6. Our previous Governor was convicted of two misdemeanors and a felony(?) while in office and refused to step down. Bob Taft, classy guy.

The last place I lived in CA was SF. I shared a house just off Sloat not far from CSU and the zoo. It is, indeed, a great place.

Henry Rollins once wrote that SF doesn't even rate on the "California sucks scale," then went on to say a number of really nice things about the area (rare for his pessimistic butt).

I have to agree that SF Bay is nice. Nothing like its cityviews, the killer public transit, Napa-Sonoma, the Marin Headlands. I also love the whole Santa Cruz-Monterey area and on down through Big Sur and out to the Salinas Valley as well. There are a surprising number of really good people living there also. Much cooler attitudes than Southern CA, generally speaking.

The truth is, though, even all those great places -- where I still enjoy visiting--are subject to the crime, homelessness, high taxes, shrinking employment, traffic, crowding, pollution, and other problems that have become endemic to CA. I saw it getting worse, so I decided to get out of it a long time ago (1993).

Of course there's the good with the bad...just like anywhere else.

Many small towns in many other states have low crime, no traffic, low pollution...and stuff like that...but they are boring as heck.

Like I said...good and bad.

I'm from a suburb of Cleveland. I think it's the sports teams that does it. It drives us crazy.

dam Miami's # 6? it's a shame cause it's only a small part where it's really bad ,otherwise it's a bad *** city

Hey, I love sports, but why so much emphasis on the cities teams, makes me think the whole ranking is stupid.

I was thinking the same thing.

So weird to me... last year Forbes picked my town as one of the top 25 best to live in. During the previous (Great) Depression everyone was trying to get out of Oklahoma and run to California (or anywhere). Now we're considered one of the better places to live while beautiful Cali keeps sinking.
