It wasn't really the Nintendo system itself the buyer was after. The auction included a very rare 1987 game still in its' original box. There are only 10 of those boxes known to still exist. Maybe 11 now, and the box can sell for $10,000 alone. That game with original box was what the buyer was really after. If you didn't read the article, the title is kind of misleading.

Is that the game that came with the giant pad you put on the floor?

The loose NES system is dirt common. The Stadium Events game is what is valuable. It's the rarest officially licensed NES game released in North America. It is crazy rare.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Exactly, it takes all kinds of collector weird to make the world go round. I really don't see the difference between spending five grand on a vintage action figure, toy or a game. To each their own.

Stadium Events/ hmm.I'd lik eto see Angry Video Game Nerd do a Youtube Review of that one.

Theres a few Atari gams I used to want . Not because of the rarity though. Texas Chainsaw, Porkys . .
