    Its beyond unfair!

Sometimes things just don't seem right.A friend of mine at work got married a couple years ago to a real nice girl. She already had a little girl and this past summer they had a boy together. On Monday he was served papers from his parents lawyer saying they were petitioning for grandparents visitation. He is so upset over this,he says he hasn't spoken or seen his parents in several years, now they want to take him to court to be able to see their gradchild.I can't believe a court can force him to let people he chooses not to be around to see his boy twice a month.Brian is a heck of a good guy,and him and Sue are great parents. They got a real nice house and live a nice life , now enter this into there lives.I feel terrible for them, how can you be forced to share your child with someone else.Anybody think this is okay?

Sounds a little weird to me but I guess a lot would have to do with why your friend and his parents are not speaking to begin with....

I would say it depends on why they aren't a part of his life. If someone has a history of abuse or alcoholism/drugs, something like that it makes sense. If it's nothing big, then it shouldn't be up to the courts to decide. My opinion is that if you don't want your kid around someone, then assuming your a good parent, you should have the right to do what you want. When it's the mother or father or something, that plays differently, but with grandparents, I don't see how that's different than anyone else. He must have his reasons.

It depends on the state, but some local state laws do allow for this crap. It is ridiculous for the government to get involved in what bascially comes down to a family dispute. For whatever reason, your friend chooses not to have his parents in his life, and it is probably a good reason. So who the hell is the government to have any say. With any luck he will win his case, or who knows, maybe he will even reconcile with his folks.

With what I'm going through right now with the divorce and custody crap nothing surprises me anymore. Some of the stuff people are allowed to do under the guise of "it's my/our rights" is down right sickening.

Happens here as well. Sucks ***, there must be a reason he and his parents don't have contact anymore, I hope the court takes that into account
