We did it on one of the guitar forums and it was great. The money however was donated to a charity, maybe that makes the difference. Regardless, it was fun, but Pay Pal gave it problems. The guy running it used ebay and we "purchased" ads by the manufacturer of the guitar. It was cool.

i did something simular on a non toy related forums...

yes it is gambling and paypal also kicks off about it
it was on a private run board not open to the public and the contents of the gifts was illegal material but that another story lol paypal still found out and put a stop to it

would be cool to see something done to support the running cost here and i would be happy to donate something toward a prize fund

what we used to do was pick lotto bonus ball numbers... everyone donated something to the pool and if your number come out everyone sent that "freebie" to you
using the likes of an official system like the lotto there was no funny business going on... if your number was the bonus ball you won... simples

if no one won then the the pool of goods got rolled over to the next week and so on... sometimes there was a real booty of goodies to be had
if anyone didnt send there end of the bargain they were removed from the pool for good

in our lotto system there is 49 numbers... we had a waiting list of folks who wanted to join the pool

imagine 40 odd free gifts making there way to you

some never never won... thats the luck of the draw but everyone enjoyed the fun and it helped run the board as we donated a small amount of funds to buy a ball number to enter the pool

this could easily be done here as we saw recently donations to help run the board was asked for... then as a side note those who donate and want in the pool can play

for argument sake lets say its a dollar? donation to the mm to play... that gets you entry into the pool, you offer a free gift into the pool ie;- dr mego repro shazam boots... and everyone puts in a gift... your number comes up you get the pool

it used to be much fun

What if you sold something for $20.00 to each person, and they in turn recieved a FREE ticket as a thank you gift ?

Of course the item sold would be something of little value and there would be no shipping charge .... Perhaps a jpeg scan of an ORIGINAL work of art by you - ready for printing and framing

    Just thinking out loud
    Good thought!

That was my original Idea as discussed with Brian, all extra proceeds were going to the museum! Sorry we could not make this work!

I don't know for sure .... I just wouldn't want to see you or the Museum get in trouble.
Side note one the very astute definition of gambling.

I once walked into a shop as a smartypants and said I wanted my free ( whatever) .

They said " you have to purchase ( whatever else) to get your free ( first whatever) ."

I said , " In theory if it was free I could walk in here with no money in my pockets and get my free ( first whatever), if I have to spend money to get it it's not free"

    Them *blank stare*

    Whatever . I left.

    Good luck with the auction.

Have to agree with Mikey on this. Could be construed as interstate gambling.
