Here's a size chart. It's actually fairly large.

Sizing Up The Apple iPad - apple ipad - Kotaku

Many people that have tried it out describe it as giant iphone.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

That essentially what it is, and why not?

I have a Mac Pro and a Cintiq monitor and since I work at home and don't travel much I won't have a need for this, but I'd be all over it otherwise and will have major tech envy of my friends that do.

Meh, it does nothing for me. I'd much rather use my netbook when I'm on the go, it can do much more than this thing, far more flexibility and is easier to type on. I have no interest in any kind of e-reader, I like real books, so that aspect doesn't appeal to me either. The only thing that impresses me is that Apple was able to get AT&T to agree to offer an unlimited data plan at $29.99 a month for this thing. I could only dream of this kind of plan here in Canada (and I doubt that even the iPad will have that kind of deal in Canada ever).

I have been tossing around the idea of getting an Ipod, or a Kindle, so I will take a look at these. My only concern would be how easily the screen might get damaged since there is no cover, and the size is not exactly portable despite the light weight.

Any movie will be severely compressed. We are not talking Blu-Ray quality considering the amount of memory the device has. It will be Iphone quality blown up so the resolution will be worse and the picture quality poorer on the larger screen.

                [edit]

Iphone games run similarly on the device. You can run the game in it's original small image size windowed by black borders or you can blow up the image but the quality suffers.

Just until they release the games with the new resolution. Of course, you have to pony up for new games. Thankfully I never purchased any apps or games for my iphone. Now I can them for the iPad and be done.

The screen is covered with glass, so you can't get any more scratch resistance. The Kindle is a easily scratched LCD. And they do have an accessory cover that also folds back to be a stand. If you want and iPod and a Kindle, you get both with this

Yeah, iSlate would have been a much better name for a lot of reasons, not the least of which it would have eliminated the similarity to women's feminine products.

You got rid of your Intuos for the Cintiq?

I also love my Mac Pro...

The tech on Star Trek was called a pad, so I think that's where the name stems from (besides the obvious steno pad).

I'm a bit disappointed from what I've read and will wait for the 2nd or 3rd versions to come out before I drool
Cnet.com is reporting the resolution at about 480p and that the aspect ratio is 4:3, not widescreen. They talk about using it for your photos, but there is no USB port to download directly to it. It also does not support Flash and does not have a facing camera for Skype users. It seems to be more of a large iPod rather than trying to be the next wave of computer tech.
                          It's all good!

4:3 ratio, no USB port, no Flash support...this thing is state of the art!

First movies are dead now books will be dead. 10 years ago my girlfriend said it would nevr happen. I feel like an Amish fossil and I'm only 37.
