Young Guns II- Billy the Kid really lived?

I saw Young Guns II the other day (again)...and was intrigued by the story of the guy who claimed to be Billy the Kid so I did some research into the story.

In 1948 during a routine inheritance settlement a paralegal was discovered that his elderly client "Joe Hines" was really the notorious outlaw "Jesse Evans" of the Jesse Evans gang....an acquaintance of Billy the Kid. Evans told him that Billy the Kid was alive and living in Texas.

One thing led to another and the paralegal went to texas to meet the guy. He denied it at first but then admitted he was Billy the Kid and showed proof of it. There are some books on the subject. Pretty interesting if your into the Old West or history.

I'm starting to believe that the old guy that claimed to be Billy the Kid was pretty credible.

I'm into the old west. Pretty cool stuff. I've read similar stories about Jesse James (DNA says otherwise) and Butch Cassidy (Butch being more believable). But who knows. These unsolved mysteries are pretty intriguing none the less.

My dad is a big western buff, so I'd heard about the Billy story years before Young Guns II made it popular. I could go either way with it, really. May be, Maybe not.

Love Tombstone. It's eerie how much Russell looks like the photos of the real Wyatt.

It`s a good tale to hold on to, true or not. I always feel good about these mysteries just because of the "Wow, what if....?"

Do you remember Jon Bon Jovi having a cameo in the film - Did any of you ever spot him?

I've read a few Billy historical books that address this issue. Pretty interesting stuff.

There is a lot of truth in the Young Guns movies. Basic facts they built the fiction around. Many of the characters really existed, although very different from their movie counterparts.

Anyway, the popular belief amoung these guys who study Billy as a hobby, and some even as a profession, is that Billy did not survive his encounter with Pat Garrett. It's fun to think he might have, and went off to live to a ripe old age, but there are no real solid facts that would suggest he lived.

Those young guns films were pretty good. I like Bon Jovi in the film too. Too bad my friend Antonio don't like him any more. He refuses to listen to Bon Jovi because of his political stance on Amidou Diallo.

I saw a special on the History channel last year about Billy the Kid not being killed. There were 2 guys claiming to be Billy The Kid as late as circa WWII in the US. The only real evidence they had to determine if they were was to compare their features to the only known photo of Billy. They speculated with some certainty, but could not say %100, that niether of these guys facial features were close enough to have been Billy The Kid.

Even so just using the photo is sort'a slim evidence so they went over the story of how he died. They poked a lot of holes into the "official" story but still leaned on the side that he was killed and didn't get away. They did an episode of the Gunfight at the O.K. Coral too. Their research showed the gunfight took place in what was really an alley and not on a corral. Anyone ever seen these specials?

Wasn't that the one were they said he had a son as well? Can't remember if it's that one or another one but the picutre of his "son" as an adult comes pretty close to looking like Billy. It's hard to keep track I've seen so many programs about Billy the Kid.

I'm not so sure J. Frank Dalton was a fraud either. I know about the DNA test thing, but I was reading something the other day about how there were two brothers that used the alias "Jesse James" in the same gang. It was pretty interesting.

As for William Henry Roberts...aka "Brushy Bill" Roberts...aka "Ollie P. Roberts"....aka Billy the Kid. I just bought the book from 1954 that the lawyer guy wrote (for $50 on Amazon...ouch!) about his story. At least 6 people that knew Billy the Kid personally said it was him and 3 signed sworn affidavits that it was him. I'm about 85% convinced.

I think your right though about one thing.....there is a "Billy the Kid" community out there and they swear he was killed by Pat Garret and they have some weird kind of protectionism around his legend....kind of freaky IMO....like a cult....lol.
