So what repurcussions would the Jets making the Superbowl have?

    Just wondering everyone's thoughts.

You have a team that in week 14 the coach apologized to the fans for not making the playoffs. Didn't even realize that, while the chance was a distant one, his team was not mathematically eliminated. Talk about quitting prematurely. Two playoff bound teams then proceed to lay down on them and with the stars aligning they get every win and loss they need to get into the playoffs.

Now take nothing away from the Jets. They have done everything they have needed to in the post season. Going into SD and beating the Chargers is a tremendous feat.

My question is, being that Indy was one of the two teams that "Laid down" enabling them to make it, with the idea being they were resting their players for the playoffs, and now NY has the ability to knock em out, if it happens will it change the way teams play the final games of the season? Do the Jets even have to win to make people think twice? Maybe with the win in SD they'll already think twice.

NFL strategy in recent years has been once you're secured in the playoffs, get ready to play the games that count, but if it comes back to bite Indy in the backside will it change the way things are done in the NFL?

Maybe the Colts planned it this way.

If the Jets beat the Colts, it will be a set up for one of the most lopsided victories in Superbowl history for either the Saints or the Vikings. The AFC has been anything but predictable this year. Many people forget, when Manning was pulled from the last regular season game against the Jets, the Colts were nursing a very slim lead and Manning was getting pressured heavily. So yes, there is a possibility, the Jets could come into the Colts hometown and beat them, based on that psychological advantage. That being said, the Jets simply don't possess the tools to handle the Saints or Vikings. Both teams are healthy and are firing on all cylinders on offense and defense. Ask the Cardinals and Cowboys - Both very good teams who were stomped down. And the Jets QB, Sanchez, as impressive as he has been in his rookie season, will NOT be able to handle the kind of pressure the Saints or Vikings will throw at him. As a matter of fact, I would go ahead and say the REAL Superbowl is the NFC championship. Whoever wins that game wins it all.
Now with regards to the NFL guidelines, I don't think anything should change. The league does not pay the salaries of these players, so they certainly can not demand participation in games where resting them is of the utmost importance. Any fan of football should know and even HOPE they could be so lucky as to have their favorite team resting players as they prepare for post season battle. That should never change. Sure it's entertainment on one level, but it's also an intense competition and the league should not stick it's nose into a player's health because of some kind of "entertainment clause." Once again I think people are assuming too much from that one game. The Colts were not handling the Jets when they pulled Manning. It was very close and a victory was NOT assured with Manning in. It just became a bigger deal because the Colts were undefeated and diehard fans ASSUME they would have won because of that statistic. Take that factor out and no one would have said much of anything. Perhaps this next playoff game will answer everyone's questions about 'what might have been?' Watch out! There might be one more surprise left in these playoffs.

Well Obviously the Colts get to beat the Jets for Real this Time.
        Lets see if it happens.

Shanahan rested Bronco's player's for a couple of different yrs ..., a bit like what the Colts did .., and it Bit him. ... I think it depends on the Team.

Well I'll say it wouldn't surprise me much more if the Jets went into Indy and won anymore than traveling to SD and winning. I would have bet the mortgage the Chargers won that game even with the crappy playoff record they have.

If the Vikings should go into NO and win they are a completely different team on the road than at home and the Superbowl ain't being played in Minnesota. They were beaten 4 times, all on the road this year by non powerhouse teams like Arizona, Carolina, Chicago, and Pittsburgh. 3 of those teams didn't make the playoffs. Favre always has a way of playing down to teams he sees as less of a threat. He always has lower numbers against them even when Petersons numbers aren't that much different from the norm, so it's not from switching to a more running sided offense. The Jet's would definitely fall into that category.

If it's NO that advances, which I personally think they will. They haven't been the same team at the end of the season as they were at the start. Remember this is a team that gave up 27 to the Lions on opening day when they were all healthy. They also gave up 34 to the Dolphins. The Jets would beat either of those teams easily at this stage of the season.

I'm not sure a lopsided victory would be a guarantee if the Jets advance to the Big Game. I'm not a Jets fan by any means but some very strong teams may have given David a chance by resting on their laurels. Time will tell. I still think Manning is the best QB left in the playoffs, he just doesn't have the tools he's had in the past. Have to see what he does with what he has.

I don't think any outcome of the Jets/Colts game will change any behavior in resting starters when you are in the playoffs and have homefield advantage throughout.

As was already stated, the Jets might have won even Manning didn't play.

if they do beat the colts then that would come back to bite them in the ***, but if they don't then it looks like a genius move

I totally agree, but there is no way they expected the Jets to go to SD and win.

I think even with the Jets win; I would rather face them than SD if I were the Colts.

Rivers did not have a good day which is unfortunate because I do think SD would have won had Rivers been playing like he has been. As for the Jets, I give them their due credit but I don't think they can play any better than they did yesterday.

If both teams play up to their full potential...the Colts will win. I don't know if I could say that if it were SD.

True but if the Chargers played up to their full potential they wouldn't be scheduling tee times for tomorrow morning.

The question is will Indy play up to their full potential? The Jets have no pressure going in, nobody expects them to win. That's gotta be deep in the thoughts of the Colts. We had a chance to knock these guys out and didn't. We can't let them win. It's just so much drama and things that shouldn't have happened, happening you have to wonder how it will all unfold.

True but the Colts have Peyton Manning who is the best quarterback currently playing, he has experience playing under the pressure and barring injury, I don't see him messing things up.

The Jets D has made a season out of forcing Quarterbacks to make bad throws by not letting them get set. The Colts experienced the same problem with them during the two quarters they did play. That being said I think the Colts are coached well enough to prep better for it this time. Peyton is going to get some points; after all, he's Peyton. This game will boil down to turnovers.

Everyone went on how the Bengals rolled over for the Jets to win. The Bengals were suppose to have their way with the Jets because they were playing them "for real". Look what happened. Now I'm hearing the same with the Colts. Not saying the Jets are a sure thing,it's just you would figure people would be more careful with what they say.

I am not a big Colts fan, but I think their defense gets underestimated a lot of times. When the Colts are on a roll, it is almost like watching a video game. The offense can wear down the opposition and the Defense can force bad throws, too. Baltimore's D isn't what it used to be, but their play is similar to Ryan's D even though (obviously) he is no longer there. They couldn't stop Manning at all.
                            It's all good!
