The internet is pretty much killing newspapers and magazines.
These are some of the subscriptions I used to have prior to the internet...
TV Guide
National Geographic
TIME
Newsweek
Entertainment Weekly
Starlog
Fangoria
Sports Illustrated
LIFE
Smithsonian
Cinefantastique
Heavy Metal
Mad Magazine
People
Muscle & Fitness
US News & World Report
...and a bunch of others whose names escape me right now...lol.
Plus I used to get two newspapers everyday...the San Francisco Chronicle, and the Oakland Tribune.
That publication is still in business? I heard they were in trouble.
I used to subscribe to TV Guide (for 20 years)...but now with the awesome Comcast tv listings, on demand, and search channel features (+dvr)..made the TV Guide magazine pretty much obsolete to me. It's so convenient, fast, effective, and easy to navigate.
TV Guide has become a Father's Day tradition in my house....usually that's what the kids get me as a gift, a year's subscription.
It used to mean more when it WASN'T the slick magazine it's become. In fact, when it was in the old format I used to have a decent TV Guide collection (ala Frank Costanza) that covered a good portion of the 80s-90s.
Now the only thing I keep regularly is the Fall Preview issues.
I haven't used it for actual TV listings in years...what's the point...they don't cover everything anymore and as you said, the listings on the actual TV are much easier to use.
Primarily now it's just for the articles, even though when you get EW and TV Guide that's often redundant in the course of a week.
Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!

How many people still subscribe to their city's daily newspaper? I do even though it's a rag....usually any world news I've already gleemed from the TV or the 'net and the local news is only 2 pages pretty much. I often think I'd be better off with the USA Today but my wife likes the local paper to see who got into what sort of trouble in the police blotters. I skim over that nonsense.

I can't take my Computer in the Bathroom with me..., So The Mag's do fine for Toliet reading. I save the Comics for Night time, before bed,.. I don't like reading those on the Throne.
... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

Getting it as a gift from your kids...I think that rules...awesome.
TV Guide was great in its heyday...no denying that.
I also used to write to the editor...three of my letters got published...one in Entertainment Weekly, one in TV Guide...and the other in the San Francisco Chronicle...

Yeah...great point...lol.
That's why I buy the occasional magazine here and there (no subscriptions though)...just for that...Throne reading...

I really feel guilty not getting the local newspaper anymore...but it's really pointless...you get so much more information online...unless you use it for when you commute to work...but I don't commute to work anymore.
The newspaper as we know it...is an endangered species.
I subscribe to Entertainment Weekly and The Wrapper. Although I'm gonna let my EW subscription run out. I also get the weekend newspaper for the coupons.
In the Southeast Pacific, lies the sunken city of R'Leyh. There lies C'thulhu waits to return to our world with the other Great Old Ones. A hideous creature of enormous size and alien power, it waits for it's time to return patiently. For it has all the time in the world while it waits for the stars.
