    Expensive shipping

    I shipped 3 boxes today
1 to england, Wales to be precise, the box weighed 1.4 lbs. and was not very big. Shipping was $12.80. I must say I was shocked. I was thinking about $9.

    2. Box sent to Illinois has one carded and one loose figure- priority was $7.25. I though it would be $5.50

    3. Another box had a lot in it so I wasn't too suprised it was a bit expensive.

I'm wondering if UPS might be cheaper than USPS. I never use UPS so I don't know. I'm just worried that a $20 figure is worth shipping and the hassle of waiting 30 minutes at the post office to ship when it is so expensive. I also wonder how the post office could ever lose money with their shipping prices.

UPS is better for larger boxes but not smaller ones. Always ask cause most of the time you can save a lot by shipping 1st class or parcel post and the difference is only a couple of days

now to the UK it's very expensive, you sent to toystalker didn't you? yeah so have I lol!

      I did too

The shipping was so expensive, I ate some of it out of my own pocket just to encourage Dave to buy my stuff.

Oh Dave paid well for shipping. He understood it was expensive and without me asking sent extra money.

It's incredible how much the price has gone up recently

I got tired of waiting in line and spending more than I had to.
I bought a new postal scale.
You can pay for labels right from your PP account.
It does save time and you don't have to write addresses out.
Just double check all your details before you pay and print
The scales will pay for themselves sooner than you think.
Bad thing is you can't print 1st class labels for other countries, thru PP, just the higher ship services.
But you can do that right from the USPS site. You may still get a discount too.
Them just drop them off at the PO.
                  Wants, original parts; thinking...
It's the quiet ones you gotta watch!

Theressa is one thousand times correct. The post office at your home is the way to go.

A postal scale and the carrier pickup offered by USPS has paid for itself many times over around here. I still have to go to the PO for international first class, and I had to use USPS click and ship to get labels for some of the flat rate boxes I sent over xmas. However, once you get the label stuck on and the pickup requested, you just set the boxes out on your porch and let the folks in the funny shorts do the rest.
You can have as many items picked up as you want, but you do have to have at least ONE of them as priority. That isn't too hard anymore tho. Once you get past a pound, priority with pickup is more cost/time efficient.

Generally speaking, this is not very wise.

The reason the Post Office heavily advertises the use of their flat rate boxes is because 9 out of 10 times the customer will be over paying for shipping. Flat rate boxes are only useful when shipping HEAVY items to DISTANT zones, otherwise you are just overpaying. The small flat rate boxes are the same rate they charge to any zone, but if you use a medium or large flat rate box to a zone that is near you, then you are GROSSLY overpaying.....

I do lots of shipping and I have found that Flat Rate boxes RARELY save money and are basically a scam.....I recommend Parcel Post, especially when sending to far away zones--the savings can be quite substantial.....
