*** Sgt Pepper has always been an album that is commerically saturated by each generation, so I tend to listen to more of the other records. It's clearly a great record, but I hear too much of it. It also makes me think about Peter Frampton and Bee Gees because my wife and kids loved that goofy movie. I can't say a word...

Wow.. Another GREAT poll... If we're going with the UK (non-US, except Mystery Tour) releases.., I'd say

1) White Album - Was Revolver, but I change opinions regularly..
2) Pepper - The MONO version's so much better than the Stereo release
3) Revolver - Along with Rain and Paperback Writer, Sonic psychedelia
4) With the Beatles - Best for pure energy!
5) Abbey Road or Let It Be - Both had great moments..

With Mystery Tour as a contender with Pepper.. 'I Am The Walrus'.. C'mon.. Need I say more..?

I'm going to veer off on a tangent because there are some tracks and interpretations on some of these "modern" albums that I like:

1) Abbey Road
2) Sgt. Pepper
3) Rubber Soul

4) Love - Not really a Beatles album, more like a soundtrack, but I "love" the re-mix of Lady Madonna and Hey Jude on this.
5) Anthology - I like the raw stuff, makes them seem more human to me. Also, specifically like the demo for Something and the original version of Ob-La- Di, Ob-La-Da.

I like all the subtle differences as well. I preferred the UK Revolver mixed version of 'Dr. Roberts' over the US 'Yesterday and Today' version of Dr. Roberts because the background harmonies on the middle part are mixed much louder, much like the additional backwards guitar on 'I'm Only Sleeping' on the UK Revolver. I grew up enjoying the 'high-hat' intro to 'All My Loving' on the German import of 'With the Beatles'; it wasn't until later that I discovered that that's the only release with that intro.. Hearing it without that intro now is lacking.

I FINALLY downloaded a copy of Mono Pepper off a pirate site and it ROCKS. A lot of songs are either sped up or have more sound effects than the Stereo version (like Paul yelling over the crowd on the Pepper reprise, not heard on the stereo version..). John Lennon himself had always maintained that you never heard the REAL Pepper until you heard the Mono version.
