    Pennies Love or leave em?

Talking about coins here, not people named "Penny".

I can't stand Pennies. I say kill them off. It costs something like 1.3 cents for each one made. I believe they are doomed, and it can't happen soon enough.

I would like some input, especially from our friends in Australia, where they did away with them years ago.

    Any thoughts?

If they kill the penny everything $9.99 will soon cost $10.00

That's a penny loss for all consumers on almost every product they buy.

I'm not rich enough to give up money for convenience of less change in my pocket

It's funny you should bring this up. I noticed an American penny on my coffee table just yesterday and commented how I couldn't believe you guys still have them.

We did away with one and two cents many years ago, a lot of places don't even like taking 5 cent coins. I wish they would get rid of those too, then maybe change our chunky 50 cents to that size. They also swapped from notes to gold coins for $1 and $2.

As for the prices going up Mikey, it goes both ways, totals are rounded down as well. Like say your total was 10.02 you would pay $10.

We also have plastic polymer notes. They are a lot more durable, hence can stay in circulation longer and survive the washing machine They are colourful and therefore easy to pick the right one out of your wallet.

That being said, our coins are quite heavy...I reckon they should change that (intentional pun), especially the 50 cent coin. The two dollar coin is smaller than the one dollar...go figure.

Is this right...US has Penny, Dime, Quarter ... do you have 50 cents? I can't remember.

I have wanted pennies to disappear for years. Also the one dollar bill. If you replace the dollar bill with the dollar coin and get rid of the penny you would still have the proper number of coin slots in cash registers.

          I totally agree. JOHN

What am I gonna fill all my old mayonnaise jars with if we get rid of pennies? What will I use for doorstops then? I can't afford to horde nickles.

Since we got the euro we also have one and two cent coins, can't wait till we get rid of them. Luckily they're already thinking of doing so here in Belgium

I had a new Australia 10 dollar note not long ago.

Has a weird little plastic window in it

                      For peeking through I guess

It's a hologram to make replication a whole lot more difficult for forgers...and to peek through of course!

I think all foreign money especially paper money is very interesting, but growing up in America, it really looks strange to see paper money other than green or dark gray.

Most American's would say it looks like "Monopoly money"

Penny saved is a penny earned. You'd be surprised how quickly they add up. Pick them up all the time.
