    I really wanted to like GF3, but I just don't ...

I seen it in the theatre and got all hyped up ahead of time, but it left me cold.

    Stuff I didn't like about it ....

    1. No Robert Duvall

    2. Too much opera music (enough to drive one crazy)

    3. Didn't like the Andy Garcia in love with Michael's daughter subplot

    4. The entire movie seemed way over the top (like the writer got too full of himself)

    IMO, GF3 sucked

Can you believe that I only figured out that was Pacino about halfway through the movie? I have never watched a movie with him so young and just didn't pick up on it until the scene when he was yelling at his first wife not to start the car.

I like Part I....Part II is good but the dueling storylines is annoying...that version where Coppola combined I and II in a linear flow is good but very very long for one sitting. Part III looked like it was phoned in....

I'd say save the movie for when you're in the mood to concentrate on something. It's a very powerful movie and the payoff is huge, but you're not going to get much out of it if you're not into giving it some time. Part 2 is even better in my opinion, but you won't like it if you don't like part 1.

The first two movies are based on the original book - part 3 is made from new material
long after Coppola knew how to make relevant or interesting movies - I'd say skip it.

Personally, even as a kid I remember watching these movies and being fascinated by the setting, culture and characters so much that the length didn't bother me. There are lots of little subtleties that you will find with multiple viewings - which I believe is one of the reasons people appreciate these movies so much. For example, it's hard to tell who Sonny's wife is the first couple times you see it, she's the one at the wedding gesturing with her hands to a group of her girlfriends before she realizes her husband has slipped away - I won't tell you what she's gesturing or where her husband is, but it's almost a short movie in itself and the whole shot lasts for just seconds.

I'm not trying to say if you don't like the Godfather movies there's something wrong with you, everyone has different tastes - but I will suggest that if you're in the mood for beer don't drink wine - if you catch my drift!

I actually did pick up on that scene. Got a good laugh out of it.

I am a James Caan fan and I was a little disappointed that he got killed so soon in the movie.

You might want to consider watching the special edition...that's where Coppola combined both part 1 and 2...and fused them together into one linear chronological movie.

So in this version...you get to see DeNiro's scenes first...because that's young Vito Corleone...and Al Pacino much later. Many people prefer this version...it flows very nicely.

BTW...The Godfather is ranked as the second greatest film in American cinematic history, behind Citizen Kane, on the AFI's 100 Years... 100 Movies (10th Anniversary Edition) list by the American Film Institute.

I've also never seen the entire movie. Bit and pieces, but not enough to remember anything at all.

Wow, I guess everyone loves action. I must be in the minority. Godfather 1 is a masterpiece. Yeah theres Duval, Pacino, Caan, but Marlon Brando's performance was flawless. To imagine he had this performance and then followed it up with Last Tango in Paris. Another movie not recommended for action fans.

Yeah, I have to agree and say that I thought Brando's performance was the best. Ranked it right up there with, what I feel, is his best performance - Mutiny on the Bounty. I am probably one of the very few who rank that flick in my top 10, if not top 5, favorite movies. Brando's performance was stellar and very under appreciated. And his work in The Godfather is right up there also.

For me, there is a select few movies I can watch almost every second day if it's played on TV and there's nothing else on ... Godfather is one of them along with Goodfellas.
