Something to check out on cable: Idiocracy

Ever watch Jerry Springer and cringe at the fact that not only such people as he has on do really exist but have children? Sometimes lots of children?

Well, this movie is a sci-fi comedy whose premise is that while intelligent people delay and sometimes never have children, the "cast" of Jerry Springer are reproducing like crazy.

Here's the IMDB summery of Idiocracy:

Joe Bauers, an Army librarian, is judged to be absolutely average in every regard, has no relatives, has no future, so he's chosen to be one of the two test subjects in a top-secret hibernation program. He and hooker Rita were to awaken in one year, but things go wrong and they wake up instead in 2505. By this time, stupid people have outbred intelligent people; the world is (barely) run by morons--and Joe and Rita are the smartest people in America.

I heard this movie by Mike Judge (Beavis and Butthead, King Of The Hill, Office Space) tested badly and that they dumped it to video after a very narrow theatrical release.

That's too bad, because I caught it on cable and thought it was really funny and a good satire(even if it does star Luke Wilson).

I saw it and enjoyed it, but I really like Mike Judge's work. It's not in the realm of Office Space, though... I think the movie suffered from having stars that just weren't as likeable as Office Space did. (Guess I'm not much of a Maya Rudolph fan.)

I was terrifically disappointed in this, given Judge's past work. I would have waited for it to hit pay cable instead of renting it in hindsight.

                Greatest. Movie. EVER!!!!!

Not neccessarily because of the film itself; but because it's nice to know that someone ELSE noticed this stuff. I don't feel so alone now.

Of course, I can't NOT see that film now, everywhere I look. Everey movie preview just screams "***" to me. I can't help notice how many slack-jawed people I pass during the course of my day. All they're missing on the "real" news are the bikinis.

If you enjoyed this film, I did, you'll enjoy Incompetence by Rob Grant (50% of Red Dwarf creators and writers), it, like teh film deals with the ever decreasing circle of inherant stupidity taking over the world and adds political correctness gone mad in as well....a fine, hilarious novel..that like the film is maybe a TRUE vision of what we as a species have to look forward to.
