Free TV might not be so free in the near future

Broadcasters' woes could spell trouble for free TV - Yahoo! News

I myself...hardly watch Network TV...except for the NFL...and I have the paid NFL package anyway.

But these Networks might try to muscle in...and charge for non-Network subscribers anyway.

God...I hate ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX...they can all go into a giant toilet bowl for all I care.

Am an antenna guy myself. I refuse to pay for the crap they call programming.

In Canada, the cable companies and the broadcasters are currently feuding with each other over this. The broadcasters want money from the cable companies and the cable companies will pass it on to the consumer.

They're both running non stop smear campaign commercials, I hate it when Mommy and Daddy fight.

^^^ Yeah, those ad's are really getting annoying. I do see the networks point though. Cable carries their channels, charges for them, but keeps all the dough. Why shouldnt they hand some over to the broadcasters? On the other hand,I'm getting so tired of the crap that passes for television these days, that I hope both sides lose the battle, and something new rises from the ashes to replace the whole mess.

you can't just use the Antenna here anymore.... , they switched everything over the summer..., and pretty much made you get a box or a switch to view anything on TV... There was a Problem when you bought the newer Flat Screens..., you could take 1 home, and when you were programing the TV, if you had cable, or no cable , the TV's would atomatically pic up like 100 or so channels in reception,.. so I believe that was the push... My Brother Had like Free Cable for over a yr,.. I myself only have basic cable..., like 55 channels or so..., anything else, I rent or buy.

Unbelievable! Hopefully, if this does happen, the local affiliates will still broadcast local news and stuff. We, at our house, do not see the point in spending the money on cable that we would hardly be home to watch, ever. I would hate though for families that need to keep as much money as possible to have to decide whether to eat or be able to watch a TV show. Sometimes with folks in need, the TV is the only recreation they have.
                        It's all good!

I guess on the bright side it will lead to original programing and more syndicated stuff on the locals if the networks pull out. With the switch to digital, I get 33 channels from my rabbit ears.

They're running all the crazy Brighthouse vs. Fox Network commercials here, as well as newscasters putting their own views on the situation every night on the evening news.

I love that the giants put the customers in the middle. Classy stance on both sides.

Fox is fighting with time/warner here in NY.......Fox says it will pull all its channels on JAN 1st......time/warner customers don't want to pay higher bills and fox wants more money paid to them for there channels
