    Why Christmas scares me...

For decades now, Christmas in my family is an absolute nightmare.

Everybody is on about the importance of family gatherings, and buying presents, etc.
But then it goes all wrong.

Nobody can be bothered to actually do the shopping.
You give them a list five months in advance, all stuff that is easy to find and affordable, and still they wait until the last minute.
"Who knew that stores are closed the 24th at 7PM?", is an often heard quote.
So my 76 year old Mom has to do all the shopping for them, 'cause my brother and sister can't get organized.

They all show up an hour late, and are amazed that we are upset.
    "Doesn't everybody love dried-up turkey?"

They bring boyfriends/girlfriends that want to be somewhere else.
That first say they're not hungry, and when we're clearing the table then say their appetite is back.

It usually ends in one big argument, we don't speak to each other for six months, and end up exchanging gifts in June.

    Ho-ho-ho.
    Merry Christmas.

This year, I have only one thing on my wishlist: an Uzi automatic.

Hey Gorn, that sound's oddly familiar, I think we might be family.

Sorry to hear it Rik, we always have great fun. Except with my dad's family, I have almost no contact with them, that's just how Meulemans are

I have a brother and sister-in-law who are always late. If we are hosting and the party begins at 12:00, we tell them it starts at 11:00.

We discontinued purchasing gifts for each other....too much unnecessary stress not to mention money. A few years ago we started up a Secret Santa where you purchase for one person and that seems to have gone over well.

We generally leave out some type of food out the entire time so if someone is hungry again later; there is always something to eat.

Every family has its quarrels. The funny part about our family is that my direct family (meaning my mom and siblings all get along really well). Just about any bit of drama is usually started from one of our respective spouses.

I hope my Mom lives to be a hundred (and in good health), but once she's gone, so am I!
I'll be sure to book a vacation each and every Christmas!
And I'll leave my cell phone at home....

Perhaps a good time to change your name to Megomans?
