Favorite Version of A Christmas Carol?

For me gotta be hands-down the 1951 version with Alastair Sim, also known as "Scrooge" in some showings/DVDs I think. I think it's usually given the nod for the best version on film.

I also have a soft spot for the 1970 Albert Finney musical and the Mr. Magoo animated classic.

The '84 version with George C. Scott -- the best Scrooge ever. Instead of playing him as just a nasty, bitter, withered old man, Scott shows him as just a man who's let life beat him and responded with mean-spiritedness that the story lets him see and brings him to regret. I think it's the most emotionally honest take on the story of all.

That said, the Sim and Owen versions are good, too.

Normally Scrooge refers to the musical adapattion (I prefer the film version of that one with Albert Finney)

The Alastair Sim film was released in the UK in 1951 as "Scrooge" and in the US as "A Christmas Carol"...

As a kid I always remember it being listed in the TV Guide as "Scrooge". However all of the recent DVD versions I have seen have "A Christmas Carol" as the title on the package.

Same here!! Love his version the best.......and Finney's version comes in second. Scrooged with Bill Murray cracks me up.
