    The Chipmunks Have you ever???

For those who had Record players...and still do as I have. Have you ever taken your records and sped them up? This afternoon as I was doing my Christmas decorations I was playing my old Lp's and my 3 year old daughter who absolutely loves the Chipmunks wanted to hear their music.

I only have their "Christmas song" on CD but then I remembered the old trick of speeding up the record so I put on Meet the Beatles sped it up and my little one Flipped for it....she now is a fan of the Chipmunk Beatles...lol!

I remember years ago hearing about a Dj in LA Chuck Taylor who was bored one night and took a Blondie record "Call me" and played it at double the speed. He called it Chipmunk Punk and the Calls came pouring in and he kept playing it throughout the night....which is what kicked started the revival of the Chipmunks.

    Anyone ever tried this???

I used to do that all the time, until my parents ordered me to stop. My Dad swore it would wear out the needle faster. I'm not so sure.

I think I did that to a Chipmunks album. As I recalled it sounded REALLY strange and you couldn't even understand them.

I used to sped up my Elvis records back in the 1970s. I also used to slow down my 45 of "Hey Shirley (This Is Squirrely)" by Shirley & Squirrely for a laugh.

                    Oh heck yeah! LOL
                    That was fun.
I had an older player once that had a 16RPM speed on it. I've never seen a 16RPM record so not sure what it was for but if you took a 45 and played it on 16 it would slow it down really neat, too.

On the flip side of that:
I once lived in an apartment (lower flat) below this weird old guy that CONSTANTLY (I am not exaggerating) played Roy Orbison records at fast speed. OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER...the SAME song...for HOURS...LOUD.

Back in the days of reel to reel tape recorders, I did the opposite. I recorded the Chipmunk record playing at standard and then slowed it down so I could hear the Chipmunks at normal speed. If I recall correctly it was two guys and a girl.
                      It's all good!

Finally about sixth grade, someone gave me an actual Beatles record and I have been hooked on the real Beatles ever since.

Oh man, my friends and I did that all the time. It was a fun way to relieve boredom. And strangely enough, some of the instrumentals sounded better sped up.

I think we have all sped up record to have the chipmunks sing a new tune, I also liked to do it with peter pan star trek records

I used to slow down the munks 45's and 78's to 33 1/3 and then you can clearly hear Dave seville as he voices each one the only difference was his timing for thier words
