movies that most discovered by cable/TV that you actually saw in a theater

I mean, when it came out. This would usually mean a movie that bombed in theaters but became a cult hit later on.

For instance, I was probably one of the few that ever saw Midnight Madness in the theater when it came out. Same for Xanadu, Can't Stop The Music, Cat People (remake) and Heavy Metal.

          Donnie Darko.

I saw it at the theater...because Patrick Swayze was in it.

It was actually a direct-to-DVD movie...but after some critical acclaimed reviews... Newmarket Films decided to distribute it at theaters...but it didn't even brake even anyway.

But since then...it has become a huge cult classic...and it's now one of my all time favorite movies.

I saw "Mystery Science Theater 3000 The Movie" in the theatre. It was the lowest grossing studio picture the year it was released, so I must have been one of the few. There was only about a half dozen people in the theatre that night besides me and my two friends.

I don't know how much of a "cult hit" it is, but I saw David Cronenberg's CRASH in the theatre. It had the most number of walkouts I've ever personally seen. It seemed like over half the audience just couldn't deal with the film and cut and ran.

From 1977 on, I didn't miss an SF or horror movie.
Very often, I saw these in smaller theatres, where I often was the only one in the house!
The projectionist would come in, see just me, and curse, because he had to run the movie for one customer.

I will take my man pill and admit that I rode my bike 10 miles to the movie theater 3 TIMES to see Xanadu! 5 times for the Blue Lagoon and 4 times to see Flash Gordon! (I was in good condition at that time in my life - 12-14)

I made my dad take me to see it and I remember the second the movie was over he was like "That was a stupid movie!".
