Got Demoted today!!! Woo-Hoo!!! Congrats to me!!!!

Congrats to me! I (and 2 of my co-workers), were taken out of the group we have been in for some years and put in other groups. In my case they cited too many mistakes in data entry and customer complaints.

    Really????

Too many mistakes in the work? On the busy days there should be up to 3 people updating but when it's really busy I am the only person updating all the work and going like the Road Runner to get everything done?

When you keep handing out other projects to people in the group preventing them from doing their primary work leaving me to pick up the slack???

When I come in 1 hour early and stay 2 hours late to get stuff done and have no free time to do anything else?

    Too many complaints?

Like my lazy co-worker, who was kept in the group, says she doesn't want any paperwork at 9am because she's only doing filing-not sorting and copying in the morning?

Like when my supervisor says to me he doesn't want customers calling him at all? It goes with the job smokey! If things ran smoothly we wouldn't have these jobs.

Good Luck to the next group. Wait untill you see it's not easy to get things done at all!

I think these places do this on purpose. That way they can avoid raises in pay or have an excuse for a cut in pay. It also makes your position less secure if they need to down scale. I swear we're all just numbers where ever you work. Keep your chin up and do the best job you can, don't let them bring you down. Good Luck!

Several years ago, my wife was working for a major pharmaceutical company when she got transferred from Dallas to Arkansas. She'd always received excellent reviews in Dallas, but her new boss was constantly finding nitpicky things to gripe at her about. He even SCREAMED at her when, because construction workers were doing something in the office, fire alarms went off. She should have anticipated that something like that could have happened, he said, and made plans for it.

Apparently, he really only liked people he hired himself. Before it was all said and done, he managed to get her and several of her co-workers (also all transferred from Dallas) to quit or transfer to New Jersey.

After she got a better job, she wrote a letter to the president of the company detailing all of the abuse, as did many of the others. This guy was eventually "reassigned" to a role where he pretty much didn't have contact with people.

Sorry to hear that, but it sounds pretty typical to me. A woman in the same Dept as my wife, does basically nothing all day, but go around the office and socialise with people. She has missed all her deadlines, and is basiclly a hinderance in all the projects she's assigned. She's been there a long time, and does just enough to get by. Who got the awards this year? Yup, she did. No offense to other managers on here, but at some point upper level management often seems to become clueless and ignorant as to what really goes on.

Sorry to hear that. My mom's been stuck in a similar position on and off for years, depending on who her current boss is. They dump more and more work on you and expect nothing else to slip. She often works extra for no more pay, just like you.

My wife just went through a bad situation with a lazy coworker as well. The same tech for two years has been assigned to come into her shop and help her stay caught-up; instead the "extra-help" would play on her cell phone all day and leave a couple hours early. My wife finally had enough and quit on Friday over it, because the district manager would not listen to her complaints; instead choosing to blame my wife for the slow production.

One day was all the shop lasted without her. Today she got a call from the district manager who had instructions from above to do whatever was necessary to get my wife back. After a couple hours of negotiation she will return to work tomorrow. On a side note the "extra help" is no longer permitted anywhere near my wife's lab.

There seems to be a lot of that going around. My girlfriend is in the same situation... always stressing out, as she does the work of 3 people... all the while, the others around her complain about not getting enough time to finish their newspapers and personal calls.

While I feel for you, I tend to be an analytical thinker... So if I were to try to find a reason behind all this, I'd say that you're just being too responsible.

One of the qualities of an excellent employee, is the ability to delegate responsibilities. You can't just simply sit there and try to put everything on your shoulders. Because, no matter how good you are, you just can't keep it up forever. Eventually it's going to wear you down, and when that happens, you'll be the only one around to be the fall guy. (cue the unknown stuntman)

So... you have to throw out what work you can to those around you. Keep yourself from getting buried too deeply. Level it off a bit, and maintain a standard in the quality of work,...even if you know they won't do as good a job as you would. That will be their problem...

I may seem a little callous, but odds are, they're already doing that to you.

I like that story. I have noticed during my working life that the ones that go around socialising while others do the work are the ones that get places. It's not right but it happens all the time and it really annoys me.

My husband recently moved out of his department. It's not a major promotion, but it is one where he doesn't have to spend his day on the phones anymore. He and a friend transferred positions around the same time, and their old department is really hurting. Because their deadlines are the end of each month, that is automatically the busiest time for everyone. It's also when people are usually offered overtime to get stuff done. One of the department managers noticed that people were basically slacking off during the month, assuming that they'd get overtime toward the end and do all the work then, for the extra pay. Instead, he offered the overtime to a few people from other departments, including my husband. They got the work done more than twice as fast as the regular department employees.

I work in a call center and I got promoted last year to trainer, but the people that are still on the phones are horrible, come in late etc... not to toot my own horn but I come in early and stay when needed, but I'm the first out the door at 4 if my work is done.

the people that socialize are usually the protected ones. it's a strange thing to see
