UPS driver steal stuff off truck and seels them on E-Bay

CAPE CORAL, Fla., Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said a former UPS driver
allegedly stole 350 items sent via the shipping service and sold them on eBay.

Documents released by the state attorney's office revealed Craig Podleski, 38, of Cape Coral, Fla., is accused of stealing $250,000 worth of items he was supposed to deliver during the course of several years and selling the items under eBay username Bulldoglover4life, the Fort Myers (Fla.) News-Press reported Friday.

He could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

Podleski's wife, Cheryl Podleski, 43, was charged with helping her husband sell the stolen items. She could face a maximum prison sentence of five years.

Authorities said numerous stolen items were found at the couple's home, including firearms, jewelry and electronics. Investigators said they have not yet determined the amount of money Podleski allegedly made from selling the stolen goods on eBay, other auction sites and garage sales.

Wonder how he got away with it for so long.

Arent all them packages tracked, and if so it's easy to see everything disappeared between the truck being loaded and it's destination.

    STUUUUU-PID

I would never deal with UPS .... The fact they break 50% of everything they handle is reason enough

He did it the first few times and never got caught, so why not keep it up. That is normally how theft like this one continues on for so long.

UPS does track, but the driver can just drop it on the receivers doorstep and say it was delivered even if the person never comes to the door. I know this because it happens to me all of the time. We ordered from ToysrUs online last month and the items was delivered by UPS, at nearly 10pm in the evening--well after we went to bed. The package was not discovered until the next morning when we left to take the kids to school.

The driver could claim the item was delivered and then: stolen from the doorstep by a passerby or claimed not received by the recipient as to collect insurance.

That is why I like USPS. Not only do they track but they knock on the door to ensure delivery; if I'm not home..they don't deliver.

USPS will leave at the door if the item is not insured -- even if the item has delivery confirmation.

For USPS, you must either insure the package, or send it with signature confirmation to have it NOT left at the door.

Of course this doesn't count if you know your postman and he knows not to leave any packages on your doorstep.
Most local small town postman are happy to oblige you if you ask.

My USPS guy has even taken my trash can around back of the house when I forgot. Knowing the mailman really helps.

You're not lible for any of it if it's stolen anyway. All shipper's are covered on the value of any package that UPS does not have a signed release for. Obviously for stuff like we collect replacement is virtually impossible but the money is not an issue. I don't even wait for the investigation time UPS has I just send out replacement stuff and wait for the claim forms to be sent. UPS is far easier to claim with than USPS. They send you the email, you fill in the 6 or 7 questions or item values and a check comes in the mail.

UPS will usually only leave it if it's not visible to passersby. They don't leave at condo's or such since others on the floor will be roaming past your door regularly. Also if your door is not a certain distance from the walkway they will usually not leave it.

From a shippers point of view,(I ship about 250 packages a week with UPS), they are a significantly better deal than USPS IMO. Cost wise if you add the base cost, plus ins, plus sig conf., it will almost always exceed the cost of UPS. The biggest exception is very rural areas, though if you look at the $6 difference between the smallest flat rate priority box and the one that is most commonly used you'll see where the USPS makes up the difference. That shoe-box sized flat rate box is $10.35 while the same size for UPS would cost me between $7 and $8. The tracking ability is no where near acceptable from USPS for me. I've had packages delivered before they were updated on USPS' site as picked up.

often times they dump and run and mark the package as delivered (there are times I have had to track a package they misdelviered and it's marked as signed for till i ask for the electronic signature print)

so if it isn't signature reqired the driver says "left it at the door" and the recpient "didn't get it" assumption - stolen by passerby insurance comes into play. It's only when they get too greedy the thief gets caught

that's where the holday bonus you leave them goes along way. my postal carrier always looks after my packages if the weather is bad he doesn't dump em. UPS will dump a box in the rain
