words or phrases that have meaning only to you and your family/friends

If I said "Petunia" to you, you'd probably think of a flower.

But in the 80's, we had a cat named Petunia who was at his happiest chomping on something or someone. She didn't draw blood unless she was mad but sometimes she would even fall asleep gently chewing on my hand while purring.

She also was a feisty cat who played rough and when she was started to get angry, her mouth would stay open. But just to make sure it is known, Petunia was also quite affectionate when she wanted to be.

Well, pretty soon, whenever something in the TV or movies came along that had a thing for biting or was just generally vicious (in a cute way) it would be called a "Petunia" and it would be in a "Petunia movie"

    JAWS is a Petunia movie
    Gremlins is a Petunia movie
The Godzilla movies were Petunia movies
Jurassic Park is a Petunia movie
    Alligators were Petuniagators
...and so on and so on...

We even called the red ghost in Pac Man "Petunia" because it was more determined and aggressive than the other ghosts.

The meaning of "Petunia" has expanded to more than just something that bites or is aggressive of vicious (in a cute way). It also means animals being animals because Petunia was just being the mildly feral kitty that she was. It also means tough because in later life she did hang on for a long time after she was sick.

I called an old clunker I had that was rusting and falling apart but still running good my "Petunia car".

So, anyone else have a phrase of word that means something to you, your friends and family that has to be explained outside your circle?

With my mom and me, it was BS and BM. Now we all know what those terms mean to most of us. But w/ Mom and me BS meant "Before Sharon" (my real name), when we were talking about my older brothers and sister when they were kids and she and my dad when they were younger. BM meant "Bad Mommy", when she would tease me and bug me, I'd call her a BM.

Simps 'o' clock. - meaning the time the Simpsons starts which is actually six 'o' clock.

There are a few my wife and I have too, but they're personal

My wife and I speak movie quotes. We have one for just about any situation.

There was a baseball commerical featuring Cecil Fielder of the Tigers and at the time his young son Prince (now a Major Leaguer in his own right) where Prince tells Cecil to "pass the lucky gravy". Cecil responds "never name the lucky gravy. Great, now you've cursed it." We tend to use "Don't name the lucky gravy" to say don't say how good things are going or it will stop. That phrase has become habit with me and I let it slip at work sometimes. The response is always odd looks.

A buddy of mine and myself were once in a LOTR-like fantasy play.
Now the guy doing the the sound was "confused" at times, so as the first act starts, the sound guy punches the audio for act three, and you hear the voice-over saying "at last, my evil plan had succeeded!"
The audience was baffled, of course, as the voice-over completely explains the whole plot and evil plan, even before they'd seen a minute of the play!
We kind of killed the sound guy after that....

So now, whenever I say in a booming voice "at last, my evil plan has succeeded!", we crack up....
                      .
                      .
                      .
"When things are at their darkest, it's a brave man that can kick back and party."

And when we watch a movie, and it's no good, I say "Klytus, I'm bored."

Then we do the whole scene from Flash Gordon between Ming and his henchman.
                        Including the Queen soundtrack....
                        .
                        .

When I was still running a shop, a guy always came in for SW figures.
Once, he needed a Walrus Man (Ponda Baba).

He asked for a "Panda Baby".

When he left, we laughed for two hours.
                          Sorry, dude....

Whenever we seen him at conventions, it's "Panda Baby time!"
                          .
                          .
                          .
"When things are at their darkest, it's a brave man that can kick back and party."

One of my friends owns a comic book store. A large group of comic book artists, writers, creative types and other people hang out there on Mondays (and usually complain about Spiderman 3). One day there happened to be a painfully shy teenage girl in the store looking for a specific comic. She looked like she would faint if anyone even looked at her. The guy who owns the store is usually of a business mind and trys to help anyone in there shopping, but for some reason, that particular day he was in a very silly mood (the rest of us are always in a very silly mood, but we don't work there, so it's kind of different for us).

Anyway, a little after 7:00 when the store usually closes, we were all still hanging out there and he walked up to this painfully shy girl and said (with a big friendly smile on his face), "Hi. Do you like my store?" The confused girl nervously nodded her head to which my friend replied, "Good. Get out." and the he turned and walked away from her.

I knew he was in a silly mood and just kidding around, but she didn't. She put down the book that she was going to buy and left the store. I walked up to my friend and pointed out what he had just done. "Dude. How many girls come in here? How many of them are here to buy something, not just here with their boyfriend? Well, I think I may know why YOU IDIOT!" A few minutes later, we were all standing outside talking when this girl comes back with here mother. The girl's face was as red as Superman's cape when her mother, also painfully shy, built up the nerve to ask my friend if she could please buy a comic book for her daughter because they had driven all the way out there to pick it up and she was so sorry to have to put him to the trouble, but it's just they were already there and all. So he re-opened the store to sell this girl the comic.

Now, every Monday at 7:00 he says, "Hey everyone! Do you like my store?" and usually we all say, "No. Not really." And he says, "Good, get out!"

So wherever we are, if someone wants us all to leave they say, "Hey guys, do you like my house, movie theater, favorite pizza place, etc.?" And we all know it's time to leave.
Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.
