Here's a pic of my big tree, it's been up for awhile but I kept putting off taking pics of it.

A 7 footer. You can see a few of my hero ornaments and my kids ornaments. My wife made the tree skirt. My wife and I bought the angel topper on our honeymoon 22 years ago. Been on every tree since. No presents yet though.

We cut a tree off of someone's farm land. Around here, you can't spit without hitting a cedar tree in the country, so they are plentiful. I'm all for reforesting, etc, but 3 trees a year ain't gonna kill nobody.

And the needles aren't bad. That's most peoples complaint. Walking in and smelling the cedar smell every evening is well worth it. To me, that's the smell of Christmas.

Funny you should mention that Jess, I was just reading info on exactly that.

Reasons to buy a real tree

    1. Most real trees come from somewhere local, so you are helping your own community's economy.

    2. Tree's are grown for cutting ... If that didn't happen, there would probably be a Walmart or stripmall on that land right now.

    3. There is no waste ... The community recycles the old tree's into mulch for beautifying state highways and public buildings ... saving people money on extra taxes for this purpose.

I haven't gotten mine yet. We always go on the weekend closes to my birthday (Dec. 12th) and cut a real cedar tree. It's been a family tradition for years. Me, my son, my dad, my brother-in-law and my nephew go out and get one for each of our houses.

No offense to anyone here, but I always joke that I will never have an artificial tree. My wife needles me about it every year just to get me riled up, and I tell her if she gets a fake tree, just go ahead and ram it through my heart, because I'd rather be dead.

I'll post pics after we decorate this weekend!

Wow what a fun thread. I feel like I'm visiting each other's houses. If I can find a really cheap tree that's taller than me after Christmas is over, I may splurge. It's just that the husband is not really big into decorations. I decorate for the kids...otherwise we probably wouldn't have a tree up. It wasn't until Dylan was about 5 that we started decorating for Christmas....so that's about 5 years with no Christmas decorations! Besides, Apemania just gave me an idea of churning ornaments like Santas and angels into apes...and I will need more space to hang up all of my Christmas apes.
