Discovery on Facebook can be depressing...

You know I've never messed around with those sites before because I felt like it was more information than you should let run free on the net. But over the weekend a few friends of mine told me to go see their sites. After seeing them, it got me to thinking maybe I could find some old highschool friends. Well, I found some of those old friends and well...they looked old. Am I the only who kept his hair in his 40's? It was a nice trip down memory lane, but also a frank reminder that age eventually catches us all. As always age is only a number and I still feel as good as I did when I was in my 20's. But you can't help but get caught up in a reflective moment when you still feel young, but your eyes report a different story. Its like waking up from a long sleep and looking around to say "What happened?" Time does fly by... Of course my Megos still look the same!

I remember looking at one them sites before .. might have been pictures posted on classmates.com

Anyway, there was this girl in highschool who used to be hot ... I mean, sizzling ...
Blonde hair, perfect body, really pretty face ...
Almost every boy in school dreamt about her every night.
    She was that hot.

Well a few years ago she posted a picture of herself today on one of them sites.
Fat, dressed dumpy, has millions of tattoos all over her arms and chest (she was wearing a tanktop in the picture) ... and sitting on a motorcycle drinking a beer.

That photo totally ruined my memory of her

Stuff like this always makes me think of a line from the song "Time" by Pink Floyd. I can't even tell you how many times this line goes through my head every week:

And then the one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

OMIGOD! That is so true! I found some on my end that could almost fit that same description. Life not only ran over them, but backed up for another shot. It's freakin' scary, but life can do that to you I guess. And the thing is, it's not the aging aspect which ultimately makes your jaw drop. It's the total disregard for everything else on those particular people who NEVER considered such things in their teens or twenties. I think deep down that's why I like people like Stallone. Sure he's "augmented" his face some, but physically the guy has remained incredibly fit. I mean he's 64 years old and has a freakin' six pack for his new movie called "Expendables". That's amazing! If he can do it, anyone can.

I don't have a facebook account but my wife does. We attended the same high school and I definitely think the same thing.

What's even scarier than seeing everyone a bit heavier, less hair, or aging skin is to start hearing of deaths.

We just heard via facebook that one of our classmates died from cancer a week or two ago. This isn't the first time this has happened and is a constant reminder that life doesn't go on forever.

Can't do Facebook/Classmates/et al, won't do it. Don't go to class reunions either. Megos are the best nostalgia. People do not always live up to how we like to remember things.

I been on them and looked at all my buds and looking at there accomplishments. I would go there looking for some old flames or good times and where they are doing now.I've been out of high school for 12yrs now its not to long but I miss the good ole days.I don't want to post up because I'll be hooked on it......just like I can't get the hell away from this site already.

yes but do not forget Stallone was caught twice with a nice load of steroids and other nasty pills to help him look that way at his age (not to mention whatever plastic surgery he had done as well. In RAMBO he looked like Frankenstein between the crazy steroids and plastic mayhem on his head)

I agree! Stallone is paying for that body, cant be healthy, thats for sure! Somewhere he admitted to using HGH ( Human Growth Hormone)(testosterone shots and yes I'm sure tons of Roids! I enjoy his movies, well most of them, but again. He is paying tons to look the way he does. I did the facebook thing, since we are talking roids, i found a guy i used to hang with back 15-16 yrs ago, he was the average joe back then, not big at all. On facebook now at 35 he's massive! Solid 250lbs! He told me he works out 4 times a week, just the other day others told me he's been on roids for the past 7 yrs! Figures!

HGH is prescribed by his doctor because as you get older your testosterone levels drop and it's completely legal in this country to have this ordered (in other countries it is not - hence the problem he had) . Plus he has no known health problems. People like "Awnold" who clearly juiced it in the 70's and 80's had open heart surgery when he was in his 50's. Stallone at 63 has no ticker problems and just finished Expendables and is working on Rambo 5. Plus I know those who have taken the dreaded ROID and they don't have thin builds like Sly has had his whole life. He gets his physique from strick diet, high intensity, high rep workouts. I think it's too easy to dismiss his hard work by saying, "The Roids did it." Check this out.

Maybe it's just the people I knew / know, but my friends started dying in Jr. High, so the death thing just feels normal to me (it's hair loss frightens me). I never really thought much about it until one day recently when I was talking with one of my best friends since childhood about the old days. A newer friend of ours was there and she said, "Wow. You two have had so many of your friends die it's crazy! I've never known anyone our age to know so many people who have died!" I guess that's when it hit me that it probably wasn't normal.
