    Old-Time Radio

Any fans? Or am I the only dinosaur appreciative of this format?
NO ONE in my house understands the concept or my interest....I'm a social outcast.

You are not the only dinosaur. I enjoy listening to it. My brother is a crazy fan - buys the old shows on CD and then has that CD player that looks like an old fashioned radio. Fun stuff.

Trying to explain the concept to my 14-year old...using the phrase "use your imagination", I got shot down with "Dad....That's what books are for".

I love classic radio shows. A local radio station has been running them for years up here, and now that I found a bunch of the shows on i-radio, I listen too them all the time.

Jack Benny, Have gun Will travel, Cisco Kid, Gildersleeve, Gunsmoke, Dan Holiday (Box 13)...love 'em all.

I got in to listening to this stuff back in the 80s when I was driving to college classes at night....for some reason I came across this station and became intrigued. I'd listen to it every night on the drive there and back. Good stuff!

I love old radio. One of my first jobs was just a tech and i had to run the board for a daily show on tape called when radio was hosted by stan freeburg i think if i remember correctly. man it was awesome to listen to how they had to capture your imagination and make you visualize what was going on. man i wish i could have been around for it's booming years.

I love these! I have over 50 tapes of mostly mysteries. My fave is The Shadow! I do have a few Sci-Fi. But I love the mysteries.

Anthony your by no means by yourself. I just received 1055 episodes of the the Lone Ranger radio series. If I could give you a STRONG recommendation, may I suggest the CBS Radio Mystery Theater with E.G Marshall as your host. INCREDIBLE program. I grew up in the 70's listening to this show every night (It actually ran through most of the 80's as well). Very, very, good program and I recommend starting with the earliest dates which I believe are 1974. What makes my particular discs so fun are the news breaks where you get to hear the reporters speculating on Nixon just prior to Watergate wiping him out. The best one is where a reporter is interviewing an Arab from the middle east and he says, "Western civilization will have to get use to the idea of our country developing oil for money." It just kills me. If you can't get them with those news breaks, just let me know, because they really make the experience worthwhile. And of course, let's not forget the Budweiser commercials..."It's that 'drinkability'. You can hear it." I enjoy the breaks as much as the stories which are completely acted out with sound effects. Very professional.

I have enjoyed old-time radio (otr) since I was a kid in the 1970s. I would listen to the Lone Ranger in the afternoon after getting home from school when a local radio station played them. On camping trips, we would catch CBS Mystery Theater. I even found a few of the Shadow episodes on 33 vinyl records before finding the Rado Spirits cassettes. I still have the cassettes but the records have been packed away. I have picked up a few cds here and there. I have both boxed sets of Superman episodes on cd.

Mentions of the Lone Ranger show make me hafta say that I don't particularly care for it....I think Clayton Moore's TV portrayal is SO IMBEDDED IN MY BRAIN that I can't settle for anything else. My favorite of the Western genre has to be Gunsmoke...William Conrad's voice as Marshall Matt Dillon is priceless.
