Picture tube TV poll ... Am I the only person ... ???

Just went to Walmart and was browsing ... something I don't often do.

I noticed they don't sell conventional picture tube televisions anymore -- I mean NONE.

That shows you how long it's been since I browsed

I have a picture tube TV ... and it made me feel like a relic
Yes, my TV is 27 inches and weighs about 500 pounds

Just wondering, anyone else here still have a picture tube TV as their MAIN television ?

Nope,I do still have two one in each of the kids bedrooms but hope to upgrade them to 32 in lcd in a couple months at income tax time.
I sure don't miss the weight on those things.

Yeah, I do. Two as a matter of fact, one in the living room (that one was Mom's) and one in my room, (that's hooked up to digital cable). I remember my older brother and I went to Best Buy to buy my mom a big screen TV (now in his room), and I gotta tell ya, I was depressed. All that high technology, and seeing NOTHING I'm familiar with just makes me sad. In fact the ONLY piece of high technology I wanna see is a TIME MACHINE!

At least with the old picture tube TV's you can just clean the screen with a rag and some windex.

These new flat TV's, i'd be afraid to touch them to clean them

Scrapped mine for space reasons, I have a narrow basement so mounting the TV on the wall is ideal.

I was in the business for years. I can't tell you how many tube TVs I could've sold. It's not that people didn't still want them, manufacturers stopped making them.

On a side not, stand alone VCRs (Not the side-by-side DVD combos) were last manufactured by major companies April 2006. I was still getting 5 requests a week as early as this year.

The only tube set we currently have operating is in the guest room. It's a Sony Trinitron that will probably outlast every other TV in the house. Those things are tanks!

Yeah I'm not surprised. It's too bad that a decent heavy duty, well made VCR hasn't been made in years. A few years ago I was shopping for a new VCR to use to transfer a lot of my tapes to DVD, and the only ones I saw were lightweight, cheap pieces of crap, including those combo units. None of them seem like they would last even a year of fairly heavy duty use (and I have a lot of transferring to do, so it would be used heavily). I guess I'd be better off looking for an older used, but well cared for machine.

I have a, as of yet undiagnosed, medical problem that is causing severe motion sickness, tremors, frequent falls and other issues. I have my old tube television because I physically cannot watch a flat panel television with getting sick. When I try to watch them, it seems like everything is moving at super speed and then my eyes and balance go all crazy on me. I am thinking that I have to go to the used hotel furniture store and stock up on $25 tube sets because otherwise I may not have a tv to watch.

Just a note,...my neurologist & opthamologist both say that motion sickness from flat panel television effects up to 10 out of 100 people. They are surprised that tv manufacturers are alienating so many customers by no longer producing a few tube sets.

Yep, still have one in the living room and one in the bedroom, but we're thinking about getting a flatscreen for the living room

                            hiya cj,

You are best off looking for a gently used editing deck. Those are designed for continuous stop and go, have great heads, and you get the added bonus of super stills for frame grabbing and such. If you are tech savvy enough, you can sink one up for direct frame by frame transfers. There are quite a few out there as most video houses are digital only now. Biggest cost on one of those is shipping as they are HEAVY.

panasonic editing vhs, great deals on Cameras Photo, Electronics on eBay!

Thanks for the tip! I never thought about something like that. Looks like a lot of those are SVHS too, that's even better. I'll have to start doing some shopping around.
