    Font problem

I recently been switching to a new computer. I transfered all the fonts and thought all was good.

But now I need to use Arial black and it is locked in the italic position (where as before I could have regular and italic).

Does anyone know how I can unlock it?

PC or Mac? Are you using a font management program or are you just installing all the fonts in your font folder?

My questions exactly. And just for the record, does anyone know what PC and MAC stand for? PC can be Piece of Crap or Problem Computer, depending on the mood you are in. Mac is Most Awesome Computer!

Anyway, what are you running Mike? I would assume PC as Arial is mostly associated with them.

Yea, my brother uses a mac because he couldn't figure out how to turn a pc on.

It's a PC, I installed the fonts via the control panel. I hope that answers your question. I checked and it seems that that particular font is identified only as Italic. Somewhere along the way, I lost the regular font. Does anyone have a TT Arial Black font they can send me

Well, I checked again. The font is listed in the installed fonts but does not show up when selecting fonts in Photoshop. It's weird, on the old computer, the Alial Black font was selectable for regular and italic.

Now there is a different entry for regular and italic and only Italic shows on Photoshop. I deleted Italic and now there is no Arial black option on photoshop.

              This is weird.

You can get the majority of the fonts online if you look hard enough. Just do a Google search and you'll eventually find a free site loaded with fonts and the one you need.

Is it a different/newer version of Photoshop? It may be the type of font that is messing you up. For example, the Arial italic might be a postscript font and the Arial Black a TrueType or vice versa. A newer version of Photoshop might be fussier what type of font it will allow to be used. Just grasping at straws here without knowing the full setup.

It's a newer version of Photoshop and that perhaps has something to do with it.

                      Fonts also sometimes get corrupted.

The file extension on the font should tell you if it's postscript or truetype - I think just replacing Arial Black with ScottA's version is your best bet right now. Let us know what happens!

Then it is either that the newer Photoshop is fussier about the font or it is corrupted as Brazoo suggested or a combination of both.

My Arial black font that is not reading on Photoshop but is installed is listed as a true type on the file listing but when opened up to show a view of the letters it shows as an open type. The file extension is ttf

I think I will see if Scott's is any better.

That's weird. I'd THINK Photoshop would read it even if it was an open type.... but if the file is a .ttf it's a true type.... Sounds like a weird file. Arial Black is a common font though. Do you have a copy somewhere on the Photoshop disks? Or on a word processor program?

As for the PC vs MAC thing: (mind the language, lots and LOTS of bad words)

I've looked on the web and someone said that the regular Arial font should have a "black" option in the pull down menu in addition to bold, italic, etc.

Next time I am at my computer I'll try that but that seems weird.
